High Country

There’s no doubt about it, the new Chevrolet Tahoe High Country is the ultimate do-it-all SUV. Is that truly possible? Ponder this: While the Tahoe is basically a luxury truck, it is also much more. At Napleton News, we like, much like the Tahoe, to do it all, even if it means overdoing it at times. Continue reading to find out more.

What’s the Tahoe High Country all about?

The Chevrolet Tahoe High Country is a full-size Sport Utility Vehicle that is adept at both on and off-roading. It’s also the best-selling model in the full-size Sport Utility segment.

Buyers of the Tahoe have a choice of three engines. The base engine is the old reliable 5.3-liter V8 making 355 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque. Oil-burning fans will appreciate the 3.0-liter turbodiesel making 305 horsepower and 495 lb-ft of torque. Since ours is the top-shelf “High Country,” model, it gets the naturally-aspirated 6.2-liter V8. This engine produces 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of stump-pulling torque.

Any trim level, with the exception of the Tahoe LS, can be ordered with the turbodiesel option.

General Motors’ 10-speed automatic transmission is the transmission of choice for the Tahoe. Rear-wheel drive is standard but models like the Z71, Premier and High Country are equipped with all-wheel drive.

This High Country model is equipped with GM’s Magnetic Ride Control system and air ride adaptive suspension. The system monitors road conditions and then changes on the fly by softening or firming up the ride quality through electrically-charged magnetic fluids. It’s a tried and true system seen everywhere from Corvettes to Ferraris.

Good looks and a bowtie, too.

Of course, the Chevrolet Tahoe High Country wouldn’t be complete unless it was sporting a Chevy bowtie badge in the center of the grille. Following its 2025 refresh, the Tahoe maintains its good looks again this year. The outside is virtually unchanged and features many good-looking items that help set it apart from the other competitive SUVs in the segment. At the end of the day the elegant, but boxy appearance returns looking better than ever.

Being the upscale relative to the Chevrolet Suburban and GMC Yukon Denali Ultimate, the Tahoe High Country is ideal for owners seeking a good-looking, upscale vehicle. Although essentially similar to the Suburban and Yukons, the Tahoe has a certain “class-above” appearance. We think the Tahoe High Country may not be as glitzy as some of its relatives but it’s still plenty glitzy in its own way.

A look inside the High Country

Being a Tahoe High Country meant that it was pretty much loaded from the start. You’ll find comfortable seats regardless of the row. In the center console, there’s a 16.8-inch infotainment display with actual knobs on the dashboard. Second row occupants will face headrest-mounted video screens offering entertainment for the shorties (or adults) in the mid and “wayback” rows. It’s not a squeeze for adults in the third row either.

Wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are still available in the gasoline-powered Tahoe. That’s a departure from the Electric Chevrolet SUVs that utilize Google auto software.

Equipped in the standard LS trim level, the Tahoe can seat up to eight passengers. But ordering the more desirable second row captain’s chairs reduces that number to seven passengers. It’s an easy way to end the “Mom, she’s touching me” episodes that may occasionally pop up.

Total cargo capacity for the Tahoe High Country checks in at 122.7 Cubic Feet. Behind the third row, you’ll find 25.5 cubic feet of cargo space.

The Chevrolet Tahoe acts like its much more expensive corporate cousin, the GMC Yukon Denali. Adaptable on the fly, it is as floaty or as firm as a situation requires. The Tahoe feels most at home in rear-wheel drive mode, but is easily adaptable to AWD as necessary.

There’s a monster lurking under the hood of this Tahoe. The 6.2-liter has a throaty growl that sounds positively muscular. Luckily, it has the guts to back it up and doesn’t have a gearbox that hunts at inappropriate times. To keep things aero-smooth, the Tahoe lowers itself at speed in an effort to help cheat the wind. Does it work? We certainly hope so.

This high-zoot Sport Utility Vehicle was loaded with all the goodies. This included the rear camera mirror and more. The camera mirror may take a few minutes to get used to but eventually it becomes second nature. Second on the big feature list, GM’s Super Cruise. Using mapped roads, it is GM’s fully autonomous driving program allowing for hands-free driving on US roads. We’re honestly leery of it ourselves, figuring that eventually one eye will close and then the other will soon follow. We don’t want to be that guy.
