Acura News & Reviews

Acura confirms the Acura Integra Type S next year.

Acura has awoken from their long slumber. The new Acura Integra Type S has been spied in high-speed development on closed race courses in undisclosed locations around the globe. Napleton News is always looking for something exciting from the VTEC Kingdom, and this fits right in.

A Sneak peek of the Acura Integra Type S

Although it runs using the same platform as the highly sought-after Honda Civic Type R, it won’t be a cookie cutter offering. There won’t be the same huge wing and other go-fast goodies. Instead, you’ll get a wider body, three large centrally located tailpipes, a more functional front bumper and a rear diffuser.

Acura Integra Type S heads away.

Initial reports from the motoring press state the new Integra Type S will be powered by the same high-revving 2.0-liter VTEC turbocharged engine found in the Honda Civic Type R. Here it is making over 300 horsepower. Just for reference, the Civic’s engine delivers 315 horsepower as sold in North America.

This begs a question. If the Civic Type R and Integra Type S use the same platform, and have the same engine and other go-fast bits, why not the same power? We’re betting it has something to do with corporate pride. Yeah, that and risk having a bunch of JDM (Japanese Domestic Market) fans carping about how the Acura has the same power output as the Civic. The nerve of those guys!

Other go-fast bits.

The Integra Type S strikes a hero’s pose.

Acura is quick to point out the new Acura Integra Type S will come exclusively with a six-speed manual transmission. There is hope for the three-pedal powertrain fans, yet! The Type S will also include a limited slip differential to give extra bite where needed the most.

The Integra Type S is not the boy racer special you would expect to buy from Honda. Instead, you’ll get a more refined and buttoned-down example of some of Honda Motor Company’s finest.

Due next summer.

According to Acura, and those who have driven the prototype in Japan, the new Acura Integra Type S should start trickling into dealerships in Summer of 2023.

We can hardly wait!

I've loved everything on wheels: Trains, Planes and definitely Automobiles. I am constantly in search of the latest in new technology, which makes our lives better each day, but will always respect the classics. You can't continue forward without first taking a look back at where you've been.
