2022 Chicago Auto Show

With Chicago being the hometown of Napleton Auto Group, it’s only natural that Napleton News attend the Chicago Auto Show. We came to the nearly frozen tundra of Chicago for the 114th edition of the show and liked what we saw. It’s the perfect antidote for the long-running pandemic. The air was electrifying, probably owing to the number of new electric vehicles on display. While some new vehicles will soon appear at Napleton Dealerships, others are already there. Stop in to see for yourself!

Here’s a look at our favorites:

BMW from the 2022 Chicago Auto Show

The BMW iX M60
BMW IX M60. The first BMW EV breathed on by the M division.

In addition to the battery-powered iX, BMW showed their latest: It’s the 2023 BMW iX M60. It’s the first time in public since the vehicle made its North American debut at January’s Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.  The totally-electric system is built with an output of up to 610 horsepower and 811 lb-ft of torque, with Launch Control activated. It adds an exclusive M-enhanced adaptive dual-axle air suspension for outstanding performance from an electric vehicle.

The BMW iX M60 marks a milestone in BMW M GmbH, which began 50 years ago. It signifies the entry of BMW M into the segment of electrified performance vehicles. This makes it the first time BMW M has actually “breathed” on an electric vehicle. The electric all-wheel drive’s extreme power and precise control lay the groundwork for BMW M’s driving hallmarks:  power, agility, and precision. The U.S. market launch occurs in June 2022.

Chevrolet at The Chicago Auto Show

Chevrolet Corvette Z06 Spider

Although already introduced, Chevrolet showed off their newest halo-car: The 2023 Corvette Z06. The Z06 is powered by the all-new 5.5L LT6, the highest horsepower, naturally-aspirated V-8 ever to hit the market in any production car. The LT6 features a new flat-plane crankshaft with an 8,600 rpm redline that reaches 670 horsepower. Also on-board: A new, throaty exhaust tone that GM engineers spent over two years crafting. No other Corvette sounds like it.

Hyundai | Chicago Auto Show

The Ioniq 5
The Ioniq 5

Hyundai was electrifying as well, with the new Ioniq 5 EV. The ultra-fast 800-volt multi-charging vehicle can receive up to 80-percent of its charge in 18 minutes. It’s available for test drives on the test track located on the show floor inside McCormick Place. The Ioniq5 has a range of 300 miles per charge. But there’s another feature sure to attract buyers: Ioniq5 customers will receive unlimited 30-minute charging sessions for two years at all Electrify America network chargers.

Kia update from Chicago Auto Show

EV6 at the Chicago Auto Show.
The Kia EV6 at the Chicago Auto Show Technology Garage

Also new to the Chicago Auto Show were the latest from Kia. The new Kia EV6 rides on the Hyundai/Kia e-GMP (electric-Global Modular Platform) as its cousin, the Hyundai Ioniq5. It rides on a platform nearly as long as the Kia Telluride SUV and includes rear- and available dual-motor e-AWD. A state-of-the-art lithium-ion battery allows a range up to 310 miles, although independent tests have seen it go further.

The Kia Concept EV9 seen at the Chicago Auto Show.

The EV9 is one of Kia’s vision for future mobility. The Kia Concept EV9 was also on view after its November debut at AutoMobility LA. As with the EV6, the Concept EV9 is a dedicated EV from Kia. It has been developed using a similar version of its advanced Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP).

Nissan Frontier from Chicago Auto Show

Nissan Frontier in Baywatch mode!

The Nissan Frontier Steelie Concept

Nissan showed off three new concept vehicles based on the new Nissan Frontier midsize pickup truck. Designed by Nissan Design America (NDA), they make the Chicago winter seem just a little bit warmer. All are based on the Nissan 2022 Frontier Crew Cab pickup: Project 72X is a throwback to the 1972 Pickup with Steelie wheels and period-correct graphics. Next is the Project Hardbody concept that looks like it just drove off the set of Baywatch. Finally, the Project Adventure concept includes the latest in Overland fitment. They touch on each model in the Frontier S, SV and Pro-4X range.

Chicago Auto Show RAM Update

The Ram 1500 Built to Serve Fire Dept. Model.

RAM revealed another in their series of “Built to Serve” vehicles based on the Ram 1500. Now part of a second phase, these trucks pay tribute to first responders with limited-edition models. On display was the RAM 1500 Firefighters Built to Serve truck. Available in red or black, the RAM features performance cloth and premium vinyl seats. The RAM’s standard content encourages owner customization. It will be in RAM showrooms later this year.

Toyota from Chicago at the Auto Show

The Toyota Tundra Capstone.
Toyota Sequoia Capstone

Toyota showed off their recently introduced and redesigned Toyota Tundra Capstone pickup truck. Loaded with highline features and new high-resolution widescreen displays, they are so luxurious that you’ll never want to leave.

Also on hand was the new Toyota Sequoia Capstone. Again, featuring nothing but the best, they were two of the nicest vehicles on the show floor. A three-row SUV, this 2023 model is ready to lead the charge of the luxury brigade.

Watch this space!

These new vehicles will be rolling into dealerships soon. Please check back with Napleton News for more information. We will cover them as we receive them! Enjoy the ride!

I've loved everything on wheels: Trains, Planes and definitely Automobiles. I am constantly in search of the latest in new technology, which makes our lives better each day, but will always respect the classics. You can't continue forward without first taking a look back at where you've been.
