The M235 xDrive Gran Coupe represents BMW’s newest interpretation of the entry-level performance sedan. Riding on BMW’s latest front-wheel-drive-based architecture, it combines everyday practicality with enough M engineering to satisfy enthusiasts who appreciate a spirited drive.
Power comes from BMW’s 2.0-liter M TwinPower Turbo four-cylinder, now producing an impressive 312 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. Mated to a lightning-fast seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, the M235 rockets from 0-60 mph in just 4.7 seconds, putting it squarely in legitimate sport sedan territory.
Unlike traditional rear-drive BMWs, the M235 uses a front-drive-based platform with BMW’s intelligent xDrive all-wheel-drive system. During relaxed cruising, it remains composed and efficient. Push harder, however, and the system seamlessly distributes power to whichever wheels have the most grip, helping the Gran Coupe claw its way through corners with surprising confidence.

Proportionally, BMW finally nailed the styling. The Gran Coupe looks lower, wider, and considerably more athletic than its predecessor.

Dominating the dashboard is BMW’s curved display, seamlessly integrating a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster with a large central touchscreen running the latest BMW Operating System. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come standard, along with an intuitive voice assistant that’s considerably smarter than earlier generations.
Thankfully, the seating remains classic BMW: supportive, comfortable, and ready for either a cross-country road trip or an afternoon carving through back roads.
One amusing discovery? Mention the word “BMW” too often and the voice assistant eagerly waits for your next command. Fortunately, you can personalize its wake word if you’d rather have quieter conversations with your passengers.

Turn in aggressively, lean into the throttle, and the M235 responds with precision. The steering is quick, the chassis feels tied together, and the adaptive suspension strikes an impressive balance between daily comfort and weekend fun.
The turbocharged four-cylinder punches well above its weight. Peak torque arrives early, making the car feel eager long before the tachometer reaches redline. Combined with the rapid-fire dual-clutch gearbox, acceleration is immediate and addictive.
