Dodge Charger Daytona SRT Concept Previews EV Future

The Stellantis Group revealed the new Dodge Charger Daytona SRT Concept vehicle at the M1 Concourse in Pontiac, Michigan. So big whoop, you may say, especially since Napleton News has seen Charger concept vehicles previously?

Slow down there, Fancy Pants.

Did we mention this is a Dodge Charger electric vehicle concept? Well, it is and it shows the performance brand’s road to an electrified future. Formally known as the Dodge Charger Daytona SRT Concept, it’s Dodge showing that a battery-electric vehicle can be a fun performance vehicle too. And the company is pulling no punches: They claim it drives like a Dodge, looks like a Dodge and sounds like a Dodge.

Although the current Charger is a four-door model, the concept reverts to this performance icon’s roots as a two-door coupe. It features a new drivetrain with even more horsepower than the current SRT Hellcat engine. And since it wouldn’t be as impressive if it only had the go, this Daytona SRT has the show, too. What are we talking about? This concept includes an industry-first BEV exhaust sound.

The Dodge Charger Daytona SRT Concept is loaded with style and performance

The new Dodge Charger Daytona is loaded with a plethora of goodies that make you go fast or at least look like you are doing so. Start with the R-Wing. It’s a unique aero pass-through spoiler that, while not tall like the 1971 Dodge Charger Daytona, still offers a view of this Charger’s inspiration. You must look back in order to move forward, we always say.

Second on the features list is one that is the coolest: The Fratzonic Chambered Exhaust system. It’s the industry’s first exhaust system for electric vehicles. Actually not an exhaust system at all. It might be better known as a sound system. As installed, it can reach 126 dB, which makes it as loud as a Hellcat-Powered vehicle.

Finally, one of the newest highlights is Dodge’s eRupt system. It’s a multi-speed transmission with an electro-magnetic shifting mechanism.

Performance made us do it.

“Performance made us do it,” said Tim Kuniskis, Dodge’s Chief Executive Officer. “Dodge is about muscle, attitude and performance and the brand carries that chip on its shoulder and into the BEV segment,” he continued. Kuniskis wrapped it up by saying, “the Charger Daytona SRT Concept can do more than run the car show circuit; it can run a blazing quarter-mile.” We want to see (and hear) that!

With a new concept comes a new name: Banshee. The latest in the Brotherhood of Muscle, it joins icons like HEMI, Hellcat, Demon and Redeye. At its heart is an 800-volt Banshee propulsion system that propels it faster than a Hellcat, with standard all-wheel drive. The system also features the eRupt multi-speed transmission with electro-mechanical shifting to deliver distinctive shift points with shove-you-in-the-seat potency. But there’s more: Dodge’s PowerShot push-to-pass button allows you to press a switch on the steering wheel for a sudden increase in horsepower for up to 15 seconds. It’s just the thing to show who’s boss.
