A sad year for many Dodge Charger Hemi lovers. That’s right, the 2023 is the last year of the Dodge Charger V8 hemi, as they transition to EVs like many other manufacturers.  For many of us, this is very sad news.  The roar of an amazing V8 Hemi, is something that made this vehicle so popular amongst muscle car enthusiasts.  It’s hard for me to imagine a future with sports cars that produce no noise, or fake noise piped in (possibly worse).

For many of us, the feeling and sound of that roaring V8 is unreplaceable.  Sure, it’s nice to have off the line speed in an EV and some of them (including the 2024 Chargers) will even have a large amount of HP, but it just wont be the same for many of us.  Of course there are people that are excited about the transition, but it reminds me of a very popular movie with the same situation.  One driver is all about American muscle and the other is about turbo charged smaller engines (imports).  I would assume if you are reading this, you know exactly what movie I am talking about.  You may even have multiple come to mind.

The sound and feel of driving a vehicle with a massive V8 engine will be truly missed by many.  However, there is another subgroup of people that will miss something else as well.  For those of us that grew up working on our own cars and upgrading them for performance, that may be the hardest part to get over.  When I was young and just bought a vehicle that was new to me, the first thing I did each time was customize it to be mine.  Sure there were usually some cosmetic things on the vehicle, but then there was any performance upgrades I could do.  At times, when money was tight, it was as simple as upgrading the plug wires, K&N filters, plugs, etc.   But then there were times when engine swaps, transmission upgrades, turbo kits, and lots of fun building, and even more fun enjoying.  This new transition of many manufacturers makes you think, are those days coming to an end for us?
