2025 Ford Ranger SuperCrew Cab

The new Ford Ranger SuperCrew Cab could be the perfect sized vehicle for most people needing a truck today. Don’t get us wrong, but those of us at Napleton News think the big boys are pretty good as well. It’s just in this case, it’s time to ask, when is too much, not enough? Let’s find out!

What is the Ford Ranger SuperCrew Cab?

In a few sentences, the Ford Ranger is the perfect contender for King of the Hill in the highly competitive midsize truck segment. It offers good power, great ride composure, competitive payload capabilities and excellent towing ability. But just what makes it do all of that?

The Ford Ranger can handle many chores including towing.

The Ford Ranger is powered by a standard 2.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine in regular trim levels. It delivers 270 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque. The Ranger Lariat and XLT can be had with an optional 2.7-liter V6 engine making 315 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque. Finally, for those real power users, there is the Ranger Raptor. Complete with a twin turbocharged 3.0-liter V6, this mill puts out to the tune of 405 horsies and 430 lb-ft of torque.

All three engines match up to ten-speed automatic transmissions and rear-wheel drive. A four-wheel drive system is available for XL, XLT and Lariat models. That Ranger Raptor is standard with four-wheel drive, no questions asked.

How does the Ranger look?

To paraphrase a not so accurate quote that is sometimes attributed to Henry Ford, you can have your Ranger any way you want it as long as it’s a SuperCrew Cab with short bed. Truthfully, it’s the most popular configuration throughout the segment. And with good reason. Simply put, it’s highly adaptable to a wide variety of situations. Like Goldilocks porridge, most buyers will find it “just right.”

At the front, the Ranger channels its F150 big brother with (by now) classic C-shaped LED lighting. It’s a four-door with a five-foot bed. That’s good for about 20 bags of mulch. If you need more, rent a U-Haul.

Our bed was made. We couldn’t resist saying that but truthfully, it included a bed liner, power outlet and various other tie-down points that help to secure whatever loads you decide or need to carry.

What about inside?

Inside the Ranger, you’ll find a contemporary mix of the latest and greatest hardware. A 12-inch touchscreen display is standard in our Lariat. (Standard is a 10.1-inch model). Our gauge cluster checked in at 12.4 inches, which was plenty big enough to see things in both day and night.

Seating was comfortable and fully adjustable, but we were disappointed to find they didn’t include ventilation on the front chairs. That becomes especially handy during hot and humid Florida summers. There is suitable legroom in the second row for full-sized adults with the bonus of underseat storage beneath the rear bench. The audio system pumps out good tunes; Sadly, with a lapsed SiriusXM subscription, we had to rely on the FM band.

Our Ranger Lariat was equipped with running boards that are either too tall or too short to be useful. That’s okay though, as we still managed to avoid getting our pants dirty getting in or out. Once we were in and buckled up, it was only a matter of seconds before we were ready to go. The starter switch is where the keys would have been inserted.

The 2.7-liter V6 engine fires up easily and we are cruising. Ride quality is surprisingly high for a pickup truck, and the power is impressive. The powertrain delivers performance effortlessly but makes a bit of racket along the way. That racket carries over to cruising up the highway, as well. This is probably due to the off-road Goodyears that have a semi-aggressive pattern that is not necessarily quiet. Honestly, it didn’t bother us as much as those we were talking to on the phone. We just turned the radio volume higher.

You’ll probably do the same!
