Hyundai Motor Company has released new details surrounding its new concept vehicle. The “Prophecy” is an EV that embodies the company’s Sensuous Sportiness identity, which is a new design element that has already carried over into live production models like the 2020 Sonata.
In case you are unfamiliar, concept vehicles are used to showcase how automakers are actively pushing boundaries when it comes to car design. As technology continues to improve, designers are given more tools at their disposal to come up with the next “new thing.”
This sandbox-style of idea exploration often leads to innovative new models that sometimes become hot sellers.
Automakers traditionally stick to consumer research to study what the most practical approach might be for their upcoming models. This allows manufacturers to gauge consumer reactions to radical features without ever having to take them to the production line.
While this method is less risky financially, it also tends to yield similar results and the car-buying public sees limited changes from year to year.
Hyundai has made the leap to incorporating new design elements without taking the time to extensively researching potential sales figures for concept vehicles. The approach shows a huge vote of confidence in the company’s design department, and more exciting options for consumers.
Some of the past concept vehicles that made a splash in the automotive industry include the following:
Now, as we venture further into 2020, the Prophecy EV concept is the latest to clue us in on Hyundai’s plans for the future.
The Prophecy features smooth curves and flowing lines, with virtually no sharp angles or hard edges to break the flow. If its name is any indication, we are safe to take this as a clear hint of design changes come.
