Thirteen Hyundai Eco-Focused vehicles by 2022

There will be a total of thirteen Hyundai Eco-Focused vehicles by 2022, the company announced on Thursday, November 7, 2019.

Buyers can expect eco-friendly updates to the lineup, including a refreshed 2020 Hyundai Ioniq Electric, Hybrid and Plug-In Hybrid. Scheduled for introduction at the Los Angeles International Auto Show, they will further bolster Hyundai’s green credentials, adding a variety of types and styles to their alternative fuel spectrum. Hyundai will introduce nine more eco-focused products over the next three years. Hyundai has announced its Iconiq Electric and Kona Electric Vehicles (EV) will come with larger capacity battery packs that can boost the range out to 170 EPA-rated miles rather than the current 124 miles capable with the current model.

Such a lineup would make them the undisputed leader of all Pacific Rim automakers and contender in the charge against most European manufacturers.

SOLAR-ROOFED SONATA

In addition to the new Ioniq Alternative-fueled vehicles, there will be an all-new Sonata Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) coming next year. Based on the totally-redesigned 2020 Sonata, the Sonata HEV will include a solar roof system that makes its debut here. The system recharges the Sonata Hybrid’s batteries to increase travel distance while minimizing residual cell discharge. Sonata Hybrid owners can realize 1,300 km or 808 additional solar-powered miles per year, after six hours of solar charging each day.

From all appearances, it seems that Hyundai is all-in, as far as alternatively-fueled vehicles are concerned. “As the automotive industry evolves to meet the needs of a diverse customer base and environmentally-aware society, (Hyundai) will continue to provide alternative-propulsion options in a variety of product choices,” said Mike O’Brien, vice president of Product, Corporate and Digital Planning for Hyundai Motor America. “For consumers seeking forward-thinking and eco-friendly personal transportation options, Hyundai’s product line-up meets these criteria and more.”

SMALLER FEET

The eco-friendly initiative from the company will lead to improved powertrain efficiency, particulate-matter contributions and an exceptional level of clean air improvements. In other words, more alternative fuel vehicles will yield a smaller carbon footprint. The company claims to be making significant in-roads to electrification and is planning nearly 44 electrified models by 2025 globally.
