Genesis GV80 Coupe Concept.
The New York Auto Show traditionally occurs in between the holidays of Passover and Easter each year, and this year was no exception. Napleton News is always up for an auto show in the Apple. Here’s our look of some of the notable introductions that were at the Jacob Javits Center in New York City.
Prior to the show, Dodge introduced the new 2024 Last Call Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170. Maybe you’ve heard of it? It delivers a blistering 1,025 horsepower and 945 lb-ft of torque, not to mention a zero-to-60 time of 1.6 seconds. It goes from start to finish in the quarter-mile in an NHRA-certified 8.91 seconds at 151.17 mph. It’s so fast that it requires a parachute (available as an option) to race. The 170 will be limited to 3,300 units so get your orders in quickly.
Billed as the most capable Jeep Wrangler yet, the new 2024 model can be ordered with an 8,000 capacity Warn winch, a new 100:1 crawl ration and a new Dana 44 HD full float solid rear axle for tire upsizing. These features help to make this Wrangler more capable than ever.
The Ram 1500 REV is RAM’s entry into the world of battery electric pickup trucks. It will feature a standard 168-kilowatt hour (kWh) battery back with a range of 350 miles or an optional 229-kWh large battery pack with an unsurpassed range of over 500 miles.
The aerodynamically-shaped Hyundai Ioniq6 EV was awarded Car of the Year award, World Electric Vehicle and World Car Design of the Year. The hat trick was for this new EV’s exceptional streamliner design that cheats the wind, while delivering exceptional range. It utilizes a new 800-volt charging architecture for ultra-fast charging for a 10 to 80 percent charge in as little as 18 minutes.
The New York Auto Show was also a showplace for the new 2024 Hyundai Kona. The company showed it off in all three flavors ranging from standard gas-powered Kona Limited, Kona N Line and Kona Electric. All three were revealed on the show floor, displaying Hyundai’s plans for upscaling the small SUV segment. In an unusual move, Hyundai built and introduced the Kona Electric first as a sign of the brand’s commitment to electrification. Still, the Kona Limited and Kona N Line arrive in dealerships first, with the Kona Electric arriving late in the year.
Originally introduced at New York City’s Genesis House, the new Genesis GV80 Coupe concept vehicle shows customers the direction the luxury brand will likely head with future designs. A four passenger crossover, it combines the practicality of an SUV with the dynamism of a sports car. According to Genesis Group Chief Creative Officer Luc Donckerwolke, the new GV80 is a statement of intent for performance-oriented models and future programs.
