It’s an iconic look in its own right but when Stellantis paints the Jeep Wrangler 4xe Willys ‘41 in a gloss version “olive drab,” it takes on a completely different vibe. With the new 2025 model, it is a new look at a classic that put Toledo, Ohio on the map. Hope in and take a ride with Napleton News as we put the new Willys ’41 through its paces.

Start with the standard Jeep Wrangler platform. Outfit it with nearly every option available from the the Jeep parts list. We’re talking Jeep’s Uconnect5 system, with 12.3-inch touchscreen display. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are also here. And as with most Jeeps, four-wheel drive is standard.

The 2024 Jeep Wrangler 4xe powertrain includes a 2.0-liter turbocharged I-4 rated at 270 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque. When combined with the electric motor generator, that number climbs to 375 HP.

Power comes from a 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder engine that delivers 270 horsepower but when combined with the electric motor generators, delivers a net power output of 375 horsepower. The four-wheel drive system is fed via an 8-speed automatic transmission. As equipped, the Willys ’41 is good to tow up to 3,500 lbs.

How does the 4xe look?

If you loved the 1941 Jeep, chances are very strong that you will loooooove the 2025 version. That’s because though the years have gone by, the Jeep has largely stayed true to its design roots. After all these years, certain things remain. These include the seven-slot grille, the boxy fenders, rear mounted spare tire and rear bench seat. Oh, and let’s not forget ground clearance.

There are new wheels, too. Imagine these as olive drab-painted alloyed versions of steel wheels, similar in style to those used on the original Army-issued Jeeps in the 1940s.

The Willys ’41 is what they call “Trail Rated.” As such, it has capabilities that others in the segment only dream about. Start with the high ground clearance. It’s enough to crawl over rocks, trees, and even some stumps. We’ve never tried it but Jeep says this baby is good enough to cross a creek up to 34 inches deep.

How about inside?

If you ever need to hose out your Jeep, the new Willys ’41 will suit you well. It’s not our style because, well, we never need to hose out our Jeeps. Or any other vehicle for that matter. Still, you could if the need was there! The interior is a combination of Spartan style meeting sheer capabilities.

There are certain peculiarities that come with Jeep ownership. One is the fact that window controls are located under the Uconnect5 display screen. It takes a few days to remember this but afterwards it becomes second nature.

Another cool thing the Jeep has: Knobs! Chances are this Jeep Willys, will see inclement weather with the driver wearing gloves. Knobs are the preferred input device when in such situations! We speak from experience.

The seats are covered in an all-weather sand-colored fabric that will likely withstand the toughest kids and roughnecks imaginable. It’s not exactly what we would expect in a vehicle approaching luxury car prices, but it will most likely outlast some of its owners.

Push the starter button and you’ll get the feeling the engine is not running. That’s because its power is coming from the electric motor generators. They enable you to drive quietly in almost a sneak-home mode (IYKYK). Eventually, the engine kicks in and you are on your way. The gearbox shifts smoothly and can step it up with a quick gear drop when needed.

The stance on the Willys is wide enough that it feels confident heading around a sweeping turn. That’s a good thing since the Jeep and others in this segment ride high. Granted, it’s not a corner cutter, but it handles better than we would expect it to.

But it’s not the highway where the Jeep really shines. Take a turn onto a gravel road somewhere. Then you will see what all the talk is about.

The hype is real.
