The Jeep Wagoneer S Launch Edition

We get a charge from electric things so naturally, we were excited to get into the new Jeep Wagoneer S Launch Edition. It’s an all-electric 2-row midsize sport-ute with a 300 mile range. At Napleton News, we like starting our day with a jolt. Is that what we found here with the new Jeep Wagoneer S? Read on!

A brief overview of the Jeep Wagoneer S

It’s the Jeep Wagoneer brand’s first foray into pure battery-electrification. Built to seat five, it’s also built in other ways: The Wagoneer S packs a wallop via a pair of electric motor generators. Zero to 60 comes in 3.4 seconds. Part of that rapidity is because of its 0.29 drag coefficient. Sized just under its gas-burning sibling, the Grand Cherokee, it carries up to 30 cubic feet of cargo in the “way back.”

2025 Jeep Wagoneer S Launch Edition shows a beautiful profile.

Originally introduced in 2024 to little fanfare, the Wagoneer S returns for 2025 with the “Launch Edition” model. It’s a loaded model with very few options. A pair of motors, one on the front axle and one at the rear, join to deliver 600 horsepower and 617 lb-ft of torque. For those not needing all that power, choose the 500 horsepower Wagoneer Limited.  Both are equipped with all-wheel drive along with the Jeep Selec-Terrain system that adapts to whatever driving conditions you find yourself in. These include Auto, Eco, Sport, Snow and Sand modes.

2025 Jeep® Wagoneer S Launch Edition gets charged up!

The Jeep Wagoneer S has an EPA mileage range of up to 294 miles per full charge. Charging on a DC fast charger will go from 20 to 80 percent in 23 minutes. A 240-volt household system will take about seven hours, while those with just a standard household charger should be prepped to wait about 55 hours. Grab a book, or ten.

What about inside the Wagoneer S?

The inside of the new Wagoneer S, although not as large as its big brother, the Grand Wagoneer, is still outfitted with enough features from that brand to make you realize you are a part of the Wagoneer family.

For the first time in a Jeep, there are electronic door release buttons below the handle. By the time you grab the handle, your thumb places nicely into the button to open the door. Just push for a quick release. The outside handles are also electronic and require two squeezes before the door releases. Talk about getting personal with your Wagoneer.

Cargo wise, the Wagoneer S has 30 cubic feet behind the second row seats. Fold them forward and that number grows to 61 cubes, There’s also a three cubic foot frunk in front, where the engine would normally be found.

Behind the wheel of the Jeep Wagoneer S Launch Edition.

Starting the Jeep Wagoneer S is a relatively straightforward process, beginning with placing your foot on the brakes and simultaneously pushing the starter button on the center console. Once that is accomplished, you’ll hear a slight drone (or is it groan) in the background to let pedestrians know there is an electric vehicle in their midst.

Gear selection is accomplished via a knob similar to the one found in the Grand Wagoneer. Toss it into drive and we are off. Acceleration is easy and smooth, but can be sudden and rough as needed. Like Ike and Tina Turner, “We never, ever do nothing nice and easy, we like to do it rough. But we digress.

Seriously, though, it’s a smooth start that launches you on a 0-60 jaunt that is accomplished in 3.4 seconds. That’s speed that rivals a performance car! On the braking side of the equation, there is the ability to do one-pedal braking but we think the system is not as advanced as those found in other vehicles. Perhaps it’s time for a recalibration before it gets into widespread use.

That’s unfortunate because it’s one of our favorite ways of driving.

I've loved everything on wheels: Trains, Planes and definitely Automobiles. I am constantly in search of the latest in new technology, which makes our lives better each day, but will always respect the classics. You can't continue forward without first taking a look back at where you've been.
