Land Rover Defender Returns To U.S. Market

After a 21-year absence from the U.S. market, the Land Rover Defender has become one of the most sought after SUVs in the country. As we look ahead to a new decade that is full of promise thanks to numerous technological advancements and the fact that the vehicle is finally available for sale in the U.S., the 2020 Defender is set to return in a “larger than life” kind of way.

The 2020 Land Rover Defender officially made its debut at the 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show this week, and it is highlighted by a tech-savvy and comfortable cabin, significant ground clearance, and more off-roading capabilities than ever before. And if that’s not enough to get you excited, the modern 4×4 SUV comes with plenty of options for customization.

Consumers will be able to choose from two different diesel-powered engines, a traditional gas-powered engine, a turbocharged 4-cylinder, a gas-powered straight-six with a mild-hybrid system, or a plug-in hybrid. With so many choices, Defender enthusiasts can optimize their SUV for power to conquer the road less traveled, efficiency to eliminate trips at the pump, or a combination of the two to get the best of both worlds.

Although the ability to personalize the performance of the vehicle is seemingly limitless, one thing that remains true across the board for each of the Defender’s trims is a comfortable cabin that is flush with helpful technology. Land Rover’s Pivi Pro infotainment system is displayed on a 10-inch touch screen and it comes standard for every model. This software is designed to make driving an intuitive experience so you can seamlessly transition from navigation to media and apps while staying focused on the road ahead.

Before you get to enjoy the functionality of the Defender’s technology, you will first have to decide if you want to optimize the vehicle for different scenarios with one of four packs:

• Adventure Pack comes with a side-mounted gear carrier and tire-compressor for off-roaders
• Country Pack has mudflaps and wheel arch protection with an added pressurized rinse system
• Explorer Pack will have a roof rack, wheel arch protection, and spare wheel cover
• Urban Pack is best suited for city driving with a more stylish look and option to increase wheel size to handle potholes with ease

The 2020 Land Rover Defender 110 is set to hit dealerships in the spring of 2020 with the base trim price starting at $50,925 and the S level at $54,375. Upgrading to the SE with mild-hybrid powertrain will have an asking price of $63,275. There will be an additional Defender 90 model set to release later in 2020, but no pricing has been confirmed yet.
