Land Rover News & Reviews

The Land Rover Range Rover

Outside of the alliteration above (Range Rover Review) there is a lot to like about the Land Rover Range Rover. Stepping behind the wheel just feels like an adventure. Whether you are off-roading or hoofing it to your local big-box store, you’ll find, like we at Napleton News did, it is up to the task. Want to learn more about it? Read on.

Land Rover Range Rover is Full-Size Luxury, Full-Size Price

The Range Rover in Profile.

First of all, although it can cut a trail, there is the high possibility that you won’t once you get behind the wheel. That’s because the Land Rover Range Rover is just too stunning to scar up from brush, rocks and other hazards of the off-roads. Doing such a thing would be akin to playing tackle football in a tuxedo. You just won’t do it. Especially when the price starts north of $112,000.

Power for our Landy comes from Land Rover’s P530, which is a twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 engine making 523 horsepower and 553 lb-ft of torque. That’s not the only engine available   either. There is a turbocharged V6 making 394 horsepower and 369 lb-ft. Then there’s the 4.4-liter twin-turbo that’s exclusive to the Range Rover SV. This engine, known as the P615 cranks out 606 hp and 553 lb-ft of torque. And just in case you want to show some green cred, there is the P550e Plug-in Hybrid. This vehicle is powered by a 3.0-liter 6-cylinder engine making 542 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque. It can run up to 53 miles on battery power alone.

Each Range Rover powerplant is matched to an 8-speed automatic transmission with all-wheel drive. Adaptable air suspension is included in all Land Rover Range Rovers.

Looks matter too, with the Land Rover Range Rover.

A merging of art and design.

Space-age in a smoothed out sort of way, the Range Rover offers a sleek appearance that even bests its Defender sibling. From a distance, there are no seams on the Ranger. Just a smooth, unassuming finish that will smoothly cut through the wind.

It’s a good look that should last many years before viewers- and owners tire of it

The inside story on the Range Rover.

Seated in a Range Rover feels like we are sitting in a pair of thrones. Unfortunately, they weren’t the massaging kind, but we can’t have everything, can we? There’s other cool stuff inside, too! Literally! These include the under-arm storage bin, which is also heated and cooled depending on your needs. It’s a great function we wished was in other vehicles.

The Rover’s Wheel.

The second row is almost as luxurious as the first one. The seats recline as well as move forward and backwards for the ultimate in comfort and the ability to get back into a third row.

Electronically, the Range Rover is very up to date with the latest in Meridian 3D audio systems. It includes a touchscreen display that is over 13 inches diagonally with control buttons located up and down either side. Some will require a bit of a stretch though when reaching to turn something on or off.

In the back is a two-piece tailgate, which is the perfect place to take in the polo matches or a sunset at the beach. While the top panel lifts most of the hatch, the lower portion is just wide enough to set a couple of cushions for an afternoon of relaxation. And the top can be adjusted to block the sun as needed.

Behind the wheel.

A silver Range Rover SE in profile.

Climb inside this hulking conveyance and you’ll feel you just closed a bank vault door. It’s that solid. It’s about as quiet as being inside a vault, too. Credit goes to the multi-paned glass and windshield. That’s right, the same windshield that has those tiny heating filaments running up and down. They are part of the window defrosting system that accelerates de-fogging on those blustery days of winter.

The engine starts with an authoritative grunt that is satisfying and subtle at the same time. We automatically disable the auto on-off function, which can be a bit intrusive. Leading off finds the Rover accelerating with ease thanks to the turbocharged 4.4-liter V8. Its speed comes in torrents that make you think you’re behind the wheel of a vehicle that is both lighter and smaller. Objects in Mirror are closer than they appear. Oops, sorry.

Handling is top shelf. Belying the Land Rover’s size, there’s a sure-footedness thanks to the Dynamic Response Pro system, which mitigates body roll. The result is a stable, steady ride that is limo-like regardless of where you may be seated.

Safari, anyone?

I've loved everything on wheels: Trains, Planes and definitely Automobiles. I am constantly in search of the latest in new technology, which makes our lives better each day, but will always respect the classics. You can't continue forward without first taking a look back at where you've been.
