A Preview of the new 2023 Maserati Grecale

Newly introduced, the 2023 Maserati Grecale is on a get-acquainted road trip across the nation. Napleton News had a chance to check it out in the flesh before you do. Here’s our report.

On display for a limited time.

The new 2023 Grecale was recently making the rounds on a nationwide tour of Maserati dealerships. We received an invitation to stop by a dealership in Fort Lauderdale, where we found not one but three new Maserati Grecale Compact SUVs. The Grecale slots in below the larger Maserati Levante. This now helps grow the family to two SUVs, two sedans and a pair of MC20 Supercars.

The Maserati Grecale will be offered in three trim levels with two engines. A 2.0-liter inline turbocharged four-cylinder engine making 296 horsepower and 332 lb-ft of torque powers the Grecale GT. The mid-level Grecale Modena features the same engine, retuned to deliver 325 horsepower and the same 332 lb-ft of twist. Finally, the 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V6 engine found in the Maserati Grecale Trofeo produces 523 horsepower and 457 lb-ft of torque. Using twin sparkplug technology, it is the same engine as that found in the 621 horsepower MC20 supercar.

A ZF 8-speed automatic transmission matches up to both engines. It is more reliable and brings quicker shifts than you would find in a manual gearbox. Four-Wheel drive is standard throughout the lineup. The Grecale GT includes an open mechanical rear differential. The Modena and Trofeo are outfitted with a limited-slip manual and electronic rear differential, respectively. Brembo brakes help drivers throw out the anchor after a spirited run.

Italian Styling, naturally.

Most other SUVs concentrate on hauling the kids, groceries and more. The Grecale can do that and haul the mail, too. (That’s mail in a figurative sense.) A typical Grecale driver will be more apt to attend a track day event at your local autodrome or take the SUV pm a grand cross-country tour.

The look is typical Maserati, from the trident-adorned concave grille to the crest resting in the center of the hood. There’s a typical SUV look with accessible hatchback and tire sizes running from 19 to 21 inches depending on trim level.

Overall, the Maserati Grecale measures in at 191.3 inches, which is larger than many of its competitors. The result is an unprecedented amount of rear-seat legroom.

The Maserati Grecale: An exciting environment.

Inside the Grecale, the interiors are as varied as the trim levels. Fine Italian leather holds sway and covers most of the interior throughout. Technology includes a 12.3-inch driver’s display with variable gauge configurations. An information display screen of the same size sits atop the center console. A smaller 8-inch display operates the electronic climate controls. Between both screens are pushbutton controls with P R N D imprinted to operate the transmission. Drivers can take advantage of the aluminum alloy paddle-shift levers, once in drive mode. It’s just the thing for the proper enthusiast driver.
