Maserati has finally revealed the Ghibli Hybrid, which is the Italian automaker’s first model to be designed with lower fuel emissions in mind. As the luxury brand’s first-ever vehicle to include an electric motor as part of the powertrain, the Ghibli Hybrid will be developed by the Maserati Innovation Lab of Modena and produced at the Avvocato Giovanni Agnelli Plant (AGAP) in Turin.
This is a huge step for Maserati and could be telling of what’s to come for Maserati’s future lineup. Could there be a Levante Hybrid or Quattroporte Hybrid coming down the line? Only time will tell but for now, all eyes are turning to the Ghibli Hybrid to see what Maserati has done to “wow” its fan base and get drivers interested in the luxury sedan.
A press release from Maserati declares the following:
“Ghibli Hybrid, as the name suggests, is something new, electrifying, and fearless. Known for its roar, our engineers and designers chose to maintain its predecessor’s performance, voice, and design. From turbocharged 4-cylinder engine unleashing 330 horsepower, to anodized blue trims, this sports saloon is unmistakably a Maserati.”
There will be two trim levels available for the Ghibli Hybrid, the GranLusso and GranSport. Both editions will come with comfortable seats, a new multimedia user interface, and real-time software updates. These are just three of many notable features that come as part of the Ghibli Hybrid.
Maserati first introduced the Ghibli in 2013. Over 100,000 units have been produced in the past seven years, providing the automaker with plenty of previous models to perfect the new hybrid model. One of the challenges facing the automaker was how to incorporate electric power without compromising the values or core beliefs of what Maserati is all about.
After all, Maserati drivers expect their vehicles to punch up a weight class, and there were concerns that a hybrid may not be able to cut it.
If you are familiar with the traditional Ghibli, you will feel right at home since the new environmentally-conscious sedan feels like the original. You will still get that full-throttle sports car feeling from the moment you step on the accelerator. The best news of all is that drivers of the Ghibli Hybrid can spend less time and money at the pump, and more time tearing up the road.
