Mercedes Introduces Newest Generation MBUX

The Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) was first introduced in 2018 as the automotive industry’s most intuitive infotainment system. Flash forward to today and you will find that this intelligent multimedia arrangement has received significant upgrades.

Even though the newest generation MBUX is only available for the E-Class Coupe and Cabriolet models, the improvements are telling of what’s to come for the German automaker’s entire lineup. Referred to as a personal virtual assistant, drivers can simply say, “Hey Mercedes” before making an audible request.

Over time, the newest generation MBUX learns driver behavior and makes significant improvements to the overall driving experience.

The MBUX displays visual information on two large, 12.3-inch screens that merge into a widescreen cockpit under a common glass cover. The instrument cluster and media display are easy to read thanks to high-resolution screens, and the intuitive operating structure is just as easy to understand, according to a press release from Mercedes-Benz.

Other highlights of the MBUX include:

  • Touchscreen control of the media display
  • Use of the available augmented reality technology for the navigation display
  • A video image of the vehicle’s surroundings which are enhanced with helpful navigation information. For example, house numbers are automatically superimposed onto the image.

The system also assists the driver at traffic lights when the necessary infrastructure is in place. For example, if the E-Class is the first car at the light, the current traffic light situation will display on the screen. Areas where this might be helpful include when there is a cyclist or pedestrian passing in front of the car.
