A full staff dressed to impress. Caterers walking around with hors d’ouevres and champagne. A brand-new 2020 911 Carrera S model hidden underneath a form-fitting sheet with the Porsche shield logo proudly donned on the front.
This was the scene at Napleton Westmont Porsche on Thursday evening as a packed house of guests eagerly awaited to see the official unveiling of one of the world’s most iconic luxury sports cars.
Fans loyal to the brand and those who are interested in dipping their toes in the Porsche pool were each treated to an exciting event organized to demonstrate what makes the 2020 911 different from the previous model year.
At first glance, the new 911 looks familiar with design choices you’d expect Porsche to make. The tachometer is in the center of the dash, right above the steering wheel, a staple of the 911. Those beautiful bug-eyed headlamps proudly peering ahead to the road in front of you. The expertly sculpted body that flawlessly wraps the sides around to the rear, displaying slim brake lights and the “911 Carrera” name.
With much of the iconic look of the 911 remaining the same, we are left to wonder what makes this year’s model so different. Believe it or not, the 2020 Porsche 911 Carrera is 95% different from the 2019 model.
Some of the biggest changes include an all-new chassis, suspension system, engine, interior, and technology.
Other changes come in the form of a modernized hood and fender line which makes the 2020 911 Carrerra more aerodynamic, resulting in better fuel economy and improved downforce. There is also a new aerokit with electronic flaps and intakes on the front of the vehicle to provide a more efficient cooling system.
Such upgrades make this year’s model the lowest emission sports car build in its class with the best torque to weight ratio. This means that the 2020 911 Carrera doesn’t have the most horsepower in the industry but it maximizes what it does have so you don’t feel an overwhelming sense of inertia when accelerating or making tight turns at higher speeds.
The 2020 911 Carrera comes in eight different trims so drivers can mix and match what is most important them. Options include hard top vs convertible, two-wheel drive or four-wheel drive, coupe or cabriolet, varying horsepower, and more. The names of all of the 2020 trims are as follows:
With so many trims, customers have more options than ever before to make the 2020 Porsche 911 Carrera feel like a true personal expression of oneself. This is a skill that Porsche has perfected over the years and they are primed to lead the next generation of 911 drivers beaming with pride as they cruise into a new decade.
