The 2022 Volkswagen Taos strikes a hero pose.
VW’s newest baby, the Volkswagen Taos, slots in directly below the mid-sized Tiguan CUV. Billed as a new 2022 model, the Taos is the second SUV to be introduced this year following the successful introduction of the Atlas Cross Sport. It is part of the compact SUV market, where nearly 4 million vehicles were sold in the last year.
According to Volkswagen, the Volkswagen Taos is small in stature but big in value and loaded with high-end features.
The VW Taos is right in the middle of the Compact SUV segment, and as such, may be the perfect vehicle for city dwellers, or new families, especially if they can’t see themselves in a minivan. It is powered by a 1.5-liter version of the EA211 turbocharged four-cylinder engine that makes 158 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque. It is mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission or, when equipped with 4Motion all-wheel-drive, a seven-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic transmission.
It is a four-door with hatchback crossover, which has room enough for five passengers and their things. It will be available in S, SE and top-line SEL trim levels.
One look at the VW Taos and the family resemblance will be very evident. With a front end, hood and grille inspired by the flagship Atlas Cross Sport for a start, it’s clear this Taos comes from a gifted gene pool. The SEL trim level is complete with LED headlights and adaptive front lighting, as well as illuminated light lines that stretch out from the logo in the grille, brought directly to you from the recently introduced Volkswagen ID.4 Crossover EV. The profile mimics the Tiguan, while the squared-off wheel wells remind us of the larger Atlas.
Wheels are available in four designs from 17 inches, a pair of 18 inches, and a single 19-inch set for the SEL model. A panoramic roof is an available option. Dimensionally, the Taos is 175.8 inches from nose to tail, which is 9.3 inches shorter than Tiguan. Its wheelbase measures to 105.9 inches while it is 72.5 inches wide and 64.4 inches high.
Built using the finest features and technology, the new Taos displays the best in interior design and fitment. The Taos takes luxury for a ride from the climate controls to the premium leather seating, including a French Roast and black leather combo.
There’s the latest technology, including Volkswagen’s Digital Cockpit with configurable instrument panel, Volkswagen Car-Net with in-car Wi-Fi, and an eight-inch touchscreen display with voice control. And by subscription, buyers can take advantage of Sirius XM radio and available navigation.
What’s next? Now it’s time to play the favorite game of Napleton.news. That’s right, folks, it’s time for another episode of “Hurry Up & Wait.” But please check back often! We will have the latest information from Volkswagen on the new VW Taos and all their other fine vehicles as they become available.
