Wondering when the new Acura Integra will come out?

A famous song once asked, “Where have you gone, Joe DiMaggio?” Fans of the Acura Integra have asked a similar question. Well, Acura is back with an answer, and a prototype, at least, in the form of the 2023 Acura Integra Prototype.

Scheduled to return to the Acura lineup in 2023, the new Integra will be a premium sport compact that features a coupe-like roofline in the form of a five-door hatchback design. What’s under the hood of the Acura Integra Prototype?

The Acura Integra was designed and sold from 1985 to 2006 in the United States and the rest of the world as the Honda Quint Integra. It campaigned as a more luxurious and sport-oriented vehicle derived from the Honda Civic Type R. The Integra and the Acura Legend were the two vehicles to launch the Acura brand in the United States in 1986.

A turbocharged 1.5-liter inline four-cylinder VTEC engine powers the new Integra Prototype. We don’t know exact power output figures yet but expect it to sport similar specifications to those found in the Honda Civic Si. In this case, that’s 200 horsepower and 192 lb-ft of torque. A six-speed manual transmission will work the gearbox.

An interesting feature of the new Acura Integra Prototype is the arrival of color-matched Brembo brake calipers. Order a red Integra and we expect you’ll find a set of matching red calipers, too.

How does the new Acura Integra Prototype look?

Many enthusiasts are up to date on their Acura (and Honda) history. If you are reading this, that must mean you too. The last time the Acura Integra made an appearance, it did so as a two-door coupe. This time is different. Current vehicle buying habits do not favor coupes, with more buyers favoring sedans or SUV/Crossover vehicles instead. In this case, forget the SUV/Crossover.

This new fifth-generation Integra will offer its distinct look at a five-door liftback sedan. But don’t think it’s just a rebadged Honda Civic Si. It will have a recognizable personality that will warm the hearts of Acura aficionados everywhere. The driver’s side headlight and passenger’s side taillight includes an embossed Integra name as it did long ago. At front is a diamond pentagon grille that gives the Integra a distinct and sporty visage. It also features single-piece taillights with matching “Chicane” light signatures.

For the first time the new Acura Integra will be built in America. Construction begins in 2022 at the Marysville, Ohio plant. The Acura Integra and TLX will be constructed on the same production line.
