Luxury automaker Acura has released a video that shows how they meticulously craft an NSX engine out of their 4,000 sq. ft. facility in Anna, Ohio. The footage reveals details on the design, development, and final inspection process of the twin-turbocharged V6 engine that powers this truly special hybrid supercar.
Part of the reason why the NSX engine so special is that each one is hand-built to the exacting standards of a single master builder. This same engine is used under the hood of both the NSX road car that you can buy at a local dealership as well as the NSX GT3 race car. The latter of the two has won multiple racing championships, which shines a light on the high-performing capabilities of this engine.
“It’s here at the Anna Engine Plant, where the heart of the NSX gets to beat for the very first time,” said Jim Mankin, who served as the engine quality project leader for production of the NSX engine. “The NSX engine room is staffed with the best-of-the-best talent from our assembly department who hand-build the engine that powers Acura’s American-made supercar and who help the NSX make its mark on the world of manufacturing.”

Ted Klaus, who served as the global development leader for the NSX, has played an instrumental part in why the NSX engine was designed to its current standards.
“The development leaders of the original NSX told us not to copy what they did. NSX is all about pushing into the future and going beyond,” said Klaus. “The core thing is that it’s not technology for technology’s sake – it’s technology in service to our customers, and it makes me extremely proud.”
With so much attention to detail and a desire to create something truly inspiring, it’s no wonder why Acura’s Head of Performance Development has a last name like Klaus. If you switched the K out for a C, we would have a real-life Santa on our hands. Especially when you consider how his team is able to create something as magical as the twin-turbocharged V6 engine that powers this powerful hybrid.
