Automotive aficionados hailed the reintroduction of the Acura ZDX during festivities at Monterey Car Week, in Monterey, California. The new ZDX is the first full-electric model from Acura. It’s expected to hit the market as a 2024 model. It is expected to feature many of the themes and new design direction of the electrified Acura lineup, as seen in the new Acura Precision EV Concept.
Napleton News has been lucky enough to attend several of these events, including the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, which have become the place to reveal an automaker’s future concepts to the world. Any car-crazed enthusiast should have this event on their bucket list.
The new Acura ZDX is co-developed with General Motors. It uses GM’s global EV platform to support the company’s Ultium batteries in this joint effort. This will allow Acura to get a jumpstart on its EV platform which will then evolve into its own global e:Architecture electric vehicles in 2026.
The Acura ZDX will be the brand’s first zero-emissions SUV. The ZDX name is a throwback. It helps revitalize a marque first styled at the Acura Design Studio in Los Angeles in 2007. The same studio designed the ZDX.
Acura introduced the Acura Precision EV Concept at Monterey Car Week. A yearly gathering of auto manufacturers and automotive enthusiasts, it includes a heavy dose of motorsports displays with something for everyone.
The Acura Precision EV Concept pushes the limits of design and technology and showcases the brand’s future vision of electrified vehicles. The vehicles will feature distinct manual and automated driving experiences. Designed at the Acura Design Studio in Los Angeles, it pushes the boundaries of what an electric SUV can be. According to the brand, it is a design study that foretells the future of the company’s vehicles.
The Acura Precision EV Concept features an Instinctive Drive Mode. This mode elevates the driving experience with racing-style digital instruments and red performance lighting. It allows a driver to takes things into their own hands. The Spiritual Lounge Mode retracts the steering wheel away from the driver and transforms the interior into a warm, calming experience with soothing scents and underwater animation that allows the driver to relax and rechage.
Inspired by the look and elegance of an Italian powerboat, the Acura concept focuses on performance via various features. These include a wide stance, an excellent silhouette and sharp character lines. Acura’s Design Studio finished it off in a matte Apex Blue finish.
“The Acura Precision EV Concept will be our North Star as we move into an exciting electrified future,” said Acura executive creative director, Dave Marek. “You will see these design cues translate over to future production models,” he said.
