The new 2021 Acura TLX is now the fastest, best-handling and most well-equipped sedan in Acura history. Using a totally new chassis architecture that is exclusive to the TLX, it goes even further to achieve auto-enthusiast nirvana for those who enjoy the ride as much as the destination.
Featuring dramatic gains in both styling and performance, this perfect example of “Precision Crafted Performance,” will arrive at Napleton Acura dealerships in fall 2020.
The new second-generation Acura TLX also marks the return of Acura’s TLX Type S high-performance variant, which has been on a long, ten-year vacation. The new TLX Type S will get its motivation from a new 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 engine. As stout as we expect it to be, Acura is currently teasing us by saying specs for this engine will be released at a later date.
Standard power for the Acura TLX will come from a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with VTEC that produces 272 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque. It will be mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission with Sequential Sportshift for added versatility.
This ten-speed automatic transmission with Sequential Sportshift and paddle-shift levers allows a driver to take advantage of either turbocharged engine’s high torque output and wider gear ratio, as well as a four-gear direct downshift function and a first gear that is lower than any of the previous versions of this transmission. The Type S version will feature more aggressive gearing for higher-performance driving styles.
More premium and tech-focused than ever before, the interior of the new Acura TLX is inspired from the mock-up seen in the Acura Precision Concept model. Designed for today’s luxury sport sedan enthusiast, the TLX interior is loaded with high-grade materials including aluminum, open-pore wood, and top grain Murano leather.
The TLX includes a new design that alludes to a Dual Personal Cockpit, with individual “pods” for the driver and front-seat passenger. Between the seats are new features, including a “True Touchpad Interface. The touchpad is used to operate a large 10.2-inch HD display, and offers more intuitive control and is easier to use than ever before.
Audiophiles may take advantage of the available, award-winning ELS Studio 3D premium audio system with 17 speakers. This system includes four ultra-slim Highline ceiling-mounted speakers as well as a new Twin Telford subwoofer design speaker. Finally, the latest generation of AcuraLink is on board with in-vehicle 4GLTE Wi-Fi, with over-the-air software updates and a host of other cloud-based services. These include emergency roadside assistance and Acura Concierge Services.
The new 2021 Acura TLX is designed, engineered and developed in America. The TLX includes styling by Acura Design Studios in California, chassis development in Raymond, Ohio, and engine assembly in Anna, Ohio. Sure, the Twin-turbocharged V6 may have been designed in Japan, but it is still assembled in Ohio, on the same assembly line as the twin-turbo hybrid engine that powers the Acura NSX Supercar.
