ASTON MARTIN ZAGATO SHOOTING BRAKE FOR SALE

The Aston Martin Zagato Shooting Brake is an example of the quintessential British Motor Car that speaks with an Italian accent. A cooperative effort by Aston Martin and the prestigious Italian design house, Zagato, the Vanquish Zagato is the latest result of a collaboration that dates back to 1960 with the Aston Martin DB4GT Zagato. The combo between these two design powerhouses has yielded some of the most exciting automotive art on the road today.

WHAT EXACTLY IS AN ASTON MARTIN SHOOTING BRAKE?

One of 99: The 6.0-liter V12 powerplant

Let’s start first with what exactly is a shooting brake? A shooting brake is the body style of a car that originated in the 1890s as a wagon, drawn by a horse, to carry shooting parties with their rifles and hopefully, later in the day, their catch. We can jump ahead a few years and find the first automotive shooting brakes were manufactured in the United Kingdom during the early 1900s. These specialized bodies were built by the actual auto manufacturers or as conversions by aftermarket coachbuilders. Here at Napleton.news, it’s one of our favorite designs.

Back in the day, a chassis and partial body were delivered to a coachbuilder who would see it through the rest of the build to completion, usually customizing it to the buyer’s specifications. The days of custom coachbuilders have, for the most part, seemed to be from years gone by, although some still exist. Otherwise, vehicles like our Aston Martin Vanquish Shooting Brake are designed by an external design house (Zagato) and built in the auto company’s factory.

THE ASTON MARTIN ZAGATO MODELS

Announced as a limited-series production, the Aston Martin Vanquish Zagato is a continuation of a long-standing partnership between AM and Zagato. The concept for this vehicle was unveiled at the 2016 Concorso d’Eleganza, Villa D’Este in Lake Como, Italy. The Zagato models are available in four body styles: Coupe, Convertible, Speedster, and Shooting Brake. There were 28 Speedsters built, followed by 99 models each, of the coupe, convertible and shooting brake. The model you are viewing here is build number 45 of the 99 Shooting Brake vehicles that were built at the Aston Martin plant in Gaydon, Warwickshire, UK. There were a total of 325 cars built of this Zagato lineup.

CUSTOMIZATION IS KEY

One of the key features of Aston Martin vehicles is the level of customization that can be achieved. This particular model was pre-ordered and is ready for immediate delivery on a first-come, first-served basis. According to the dealership website, online shopping and delivery options are available, as well.

WHAT IS IT? WHY DO I WANT IT?

The Aston Martin Vanquish Zagato Shooting Brake is one of the slickest “station wagons” on the road today. Start with a basic Vanquish and its already substantial bones. Follow it with a functional and completely aerodynamic body that builds up the cargo area, yielding enough room for a week’s worth of suitcases and whatnot. Made completely out of carbon fiber, even in the cargo hold, it is as light as it is agile. To our eyes, it’s pretty sinister-looking, too.

Custom hood and side vents help to provide a functional and stylistic escape for trapped air and heat coming from under the vehicle. Follow down the sinuous lines of the sleek body to the broad shoulders that make up the fenders keeping the Pirelli P-Zero tires under wraps.

Under the hood is a 6.0-liter naturally-aspirated V12 that produces 580 horsepower and 465 lb-ft of torque. Power from the 12-cylinder engine is sent through a ZF eight-speed automatic transmission to the rear wheels of this grand-touring two-seater. Carbon ceramic brake rotors help to bring things back under control. Just as an aside, zero to 60 mph taps out in 3.5 seconds. The top speed is 201 mph. As it drives past you, remember to look at the LED taillamps, which appear like fighter jet afterburners. It’s a look you won’t soon forget.

There’s only one, and it’s at Aston Martin Chicago.
