The 2023 Detroit Auto Show is widely known as one of the world’s most influential showcases for current and future products as well as emerging technologies. We at Napleton News have attended quite a few of these shows and always seem to come away with something new. Though the number reveals were down, they were very important to the companies’ bottom line. This year was no exception.
Here’s a look at the four reveals made this week:
Revealed away from the actual Detroit Auto Show venue, the new Ford F-150 featured a revised grille and a new tailgate design. The grille is a wraparound look that offers a throwback vibe with headlights designed within the grille.
In going a step further, Ford engineers paid a visit to their local mega-hardware stores to watch how consumers loaded their trucks. From there, they discovered that many didn’t need to drop the tailgate itself, opting instead to toss it over the top. What if they are of the height-challenged variety? The new F-150 tailgate swings open like a refrigerator door, even while a trailer is attached. That way, there is easy access for everyone, regardless of size!
According to Ford’s Mike Levine, “the (tailgate) door has three different angles to open to the side when towing a trailer,” said Levine. “The door also allows better access to the cargo box to reach further into it. And you can still open the tailgate straight down with a key fob.”
The new Ford F-150 can carry 2,455 pounds in the bed and 13,500 pounds on the towing hitch.
It will appear in early 2024. The new GMC Acadia is redesigned inside and out, with more capability and space than the model it replaces. For 2024, it includes expanded cargo space of almost 24%, seating for 7 or 8 people, a new 15-inch premium infotainment system, available Super Cruise Driver-Assistance technology, up to 9 camera views and 15 standard safety and driver assistance features.
The interior features an 11-inch diagonal driver information center, an available configurable 8-inch diagonal head-up display.
Under the hood, power comes from a new 328-horsepower 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. It can tow up to 5,000 pounds using either front or all-wheel drive. Overall, the 2024 Acadia is longer, taller and wider than before. It is up to any task you can ask of it.
Scheduled for sale in Spring of 2024, the new Cadillac CT5 includes a wider, more aggressive grill and rather complex LED lighting system. The interior has been refined as well and now features a 33-inch screen that dominates the cabin. The new screen stretches from the left A/C vent seamlessly. An available 5G Wi-Fi hotspot is on board along with a suite of Google apps including Google Maps and Google Assistant. Amazon’s Alexa is also on board.
Power for the new CT5 are carryover, and start with a base 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo making 237 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. Go twin turbo and you’ll enjoy a 3.0-liter V6 that delivers 335 horsepower and 405 lb-ft of torque.
If these are not powerful enough, just sit tight. Updated versions of the CT5-V and CT5-V Blackwing hot rods will appear at a later date.
The 2024 Jeep Gladiator made an appearance at the Detroit Auto Show to show off its refresh that puts it on par with its Jeep Wrangler sibling. It adds a new version of the iconic seven-slot grille and a new 12.3-inch touchscreen. Finally, there are newly available power-adjustable front seats.
The new Gladiator will also add two new trim levels: the Mojave X and Rubicon X models. There will also be new American Expedition Vehicles upfit packages with high-performance shock absorbers, tires and wheels.
Power choices roll back to a single one: the 285-horsepower 3.6-liter Pentastar V6. At some point in the future, expect a 4xe plug-in-hybrid version, too.
Keep checking back!
We haven’t driven any of these new models yet, but you know we will. Check back with Napleton News for the latest in up-to-the-minute automotive news.
