HHOW Donates $2 Million For COVID-19 Drive-Thru Testing Centers

Hyundai Hope On Wheels (HHOW) is donating $2 million for COVID-19 drive-thru testing centers in children’s hospitals throughout the United States.

Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital (Cleveland, OH), Children’s National Hospital (Washington, D.C.), and Children’s Hospital of Orange County (CHOC) are the first three to receive $200,000 each to assist COVID-19 testing for children with pediatric cancer.

“Hyundai is a company committed to improving the well-being of society and the health of children,” said Jose Munoz, President and CEO, Hyundai Motor North America.

Currently, businesses across the country have been faced with many difficult decisions as it pertains to responding to the pandemic. The hospitality industry and retailers like car dealerships have both been hit especially hard. It’s uplifting to see an automotive manufacturer step up to commit resources to a truly noble cause.

“In the last few weeks, our society has been challenged with a major pandemic that has had significant consequences to life, safety and well-being,” said Munoz. “Children who are diagnosed with cancer are particularly at high risk. Through our Hyundai Hope On Wheels program, we are committed to being a strong partner on behalf of children’s health and assisting during this time.”

Launched in 1998, HHOW is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization committed to finding a cure for childhood cancer. The organization is one of the largest non-profit funders of pediatric cancer research in the country. Their funding comes from Hyundai Motor America and its dealerships, like the Hyundai locations owned by the Ed Napleton Automotive Group.

“This is an unusual time in our nation as we combat the ravages of COVID-19 coronavirus,” said Scott Fink, HHOW Board Chair. “Hyundai dealers across America unite with Hyundai to serve humanity, as we come together in this time of national crisis.”

With a main message of “hope,” the foundation serves as a critical reminder to everyone during this difficult time. That emotion may be the very thing that carries us through our current circumstances.

“Through our involvement with Hyundai Hope On Wheels, we know that children who are fighting cancer have weakened immune systems and are at a high risk for COVID-19,” said Fink. “Together, we have directed additional resources to the various hospitals, who are arranging COVID-19 Drive-Thru Testing Centers at their facilities across the U.S.”

The nonprofit put together the following video message to communicate how important it is to maintain a positive outlook during a time like this.
