BMW officials said the new BMW M8 Gran Coupe and “Competition” models will begin production in March 2020. They will soon be available in BMW Dealerships nationwide, including Napleton’s BMW of Wyoming Valley.

The M8 Gran Coupe is the latest M Performance vehicle from the Munich, Germany-based brand.

The heart of a Supercar.

The M8 engine is a 600 horsepower, 4.4-liter M TwinPower Turbo V8 engine making 553 lb-ft of torque. The Gran Coupe “Competition” model will receive a modified power unit with 617 horsepower @ 6,000 rpm and 553 lb-ft of torque. Both engines have turbochargers located in the V of the engine block for close access to the exhaust banks. This helps improve thermal efficiency and minimize turbo lag. High-performance intercooling helps to reduce the intake temperature for a denser air charge. In other words, the M8 beats with the heart of a supercar.

The M8 Gran Coupe Competition is modified to handle the stress involved with tracking the car. Engine mounts are modified for improved power transmission and more immediate turn-in during cornering maneuvers.

Step right this way.

An eight-speed M Steptronic transmission moves the power to the M xDrive all-wheel drive system. Designed with a rear-oriented torque bias, the front wheels receive torque only when they have lost traction. Console-mounted adjustments allow the driver to tailor the comfort and speed of gear changes from the gear box.

As a result of these modifications, the S63-powered M8 Gran Coupe can accelerate from 0-60 mph in 3.1 seconds. In the M8 Gran Competition, the task is performed in 3.0 seconds. Tuning for the new 2020 M8 Gran Coupe occurred at the BMW Group Test facility in Miramas, in the south of France, the winter testing facilities in Arjeplog, Sweden, and at the world famous Nurburgring Nordschleife circuit in Germany.

I've loved everything on wheels: Trains, Planes and definitely Automobiles. I am constantly in search of the latest in new technology, which makes our lives better each day, but will always respect the classics. You can't continue forward without first taking a look back at where you've been.
