Now into its second generation, the new 2023 BMW M2 coupe continues the legendary look and stance of BMW’s classic high-performance sports car. It combines compact dimensions, a straight-6 engine, manual gearbox, advanced technology and rear-wheel drive in one good looking package. Add in the sheer joy of driving and you know it won’t get any better than this. The gearheads at Napleton News can’t wait to get our hands on this impressive sports machine. When we do, you can bet we will have a full report.
The new 2023 BMW M2 is a pure sports car built with an imposing stance, broad shoulders and powerful proportions. It has a full length of 180.3-inches and rides on a 108.1-inch wheelbase. That’s 2.1-inches longer than the previous M2 and adding a bit of legroom in the process. The stance has increased as well, with the M2 now as wide as the larger BMW M4.
Power for the new M2 comes from a 3.0-liter M TwinPower Turbo 6-cylinder engine that delivers 453-hp and 406 lb-ft of torque. It’s matched to a buyer’s choice of 6-speed manual or an M Steptronic transmission with Drivelogic that offers several modes of driving, including a high-performance track mode. The 6-speed manual transmission features gears that are perfectly matched to the engine’s powerband. BMW claims 0-to-60 mph with the manual transmission in 4.1 seconds. The eight-speed automatic performs the same feat in 3.9 seconds. Top speed for the M2 is 155 mph, or 177 mph if equipped with the optional M Driver’s Package.
The new M2 includes M-specific chassis components that help keep a firm grip on the pavement below. Torsional stiffness is increased by connecting unique links to the strut towers, the nose and the bulkhead of the vehicle. Model specific C-pillar reinforcements stiffen the rear and help to keep the rear drive wheels firmly planted on the macadam. It rides on a staggered set of wheels with 19-inch front and 20-inch rear tires, respectively.
The new M2 is equipped with M-Compound brakes six-piston fixed-caliper brakes with 15-inch rotors in front and 14.6-inch discs in the rear. Blue painted brake calipers let outsiders know they’re dealing with something that’s out of the mainstream.
Driver-centric has always been a BMW touchstone and in that regard, the M2 is no different. The interior starts with basic M Sport Seating with more intensive side bolsters. M Carbon bucket seats are available as part of the available Carbon Package. An optional electrically operated glass moonroof is now 20-percent larger than the previous version.
Opening the door to a performance experience that is unparalleled, the M2 has an M Mode Button that allows drivers to tailor the car to their own driving preferences. Selecting between sport and track mode. Such modes minimize features and assists in favor of letting the driver be in control.
It’s just one more reason that BMW remains the “Ultimate Driving Machine.” Please continue to check back at Napleton News for updates and availability.
