A definite contender in the race for the North American Car of the year, the mid-engined 2020 Corvette Stingray will hit the road running with a base Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price of $59,995. That price point is a pleasant surprise since it’s only around $4,000 more than the 2019 front-engined Corvette, currently at dealers.
Other available packages will be in the pipeline, as well. A mid-level trim set features a full-color head-up display and Bose premium 14-speaker audio system, starting at $67,295. A chart-topping top-level trim package is available with enough leather in the interior to outfit a biker bar, and will start at $71,945, GM said.
Promising to be a Corvette Stingray like no other, Chevrolet engineers have relocated the eighth-generation ‘Vette’s engine from its well-known front engine configuration to a mid-engine location just behind the driver and passenger.
Power is supplied by a classic Chevy 6.2-liter small block V8 engine that produces 495 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque. Zero to 60 mph comes in less than 3 seconds, which is most excellent if you are trying to get to the grocery before closing time. In an interview with the Detroit Free Press, Corvette executive chief engineer Tadge Juechter said, “We’ve packed a lot of performance into the Corvette Stingray at this price, when you consider an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission, small block V-8 and engine-mounted dry sump oil system are all standard.”
If you have the itch, and who wouldn’t, contact the Chevrolet Corvette Concierge team to answer questions about the car, how to order it and what goes into being a Corvette owner. The Detroit-based team is reachable by dialing 866-424-3892 from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. EDT Monday-Friday.
Chevrolet will start building the 2020 Corvette Stingray at GM’s Bowling Green Assembly in late 2019.
Actual pricing may differ at time of sale.
