Whenever FCA shows up at the annual SEMA Show (Specialty Equipment Market Association) held each November in Las Vegas, you are guaranteed things will be wild. The SEMA show is the yearly get-together that showcases the latest in customized cars from manufacturers as well as a wide variety of aftermarket parts that are designed to take your vehicle to the next level.
The SEMA Show is an exercise in extreme excess. Whether it’s sheer power, size, paint, sound or speed, you know that by the end of the show, your head will be spinning. There are far more sturdy folks than us who attend the show every year, but trust us, we know after having been to three of them in our lifetime.
FCA has supported and supplied the customizing industry for many years through their MOPAR Parts Division. These same parts are available through all of Napleton’s Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and Ram parts departments.
MOPAR and Dodge/SRT introduced a new, fourth-generation version of the track-only Challenger Drag Pak. The 2020 MOPAR Dodge Challenger Drag Pak is designed with the grassroots Sportsman drag racing category in National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) and National Muscle Car Association (NMCA).
The 2020 MOPAR Dodge Challenger Drag Pak is the culmination of all the lessons learned with the third-generation car. This new model is offered as a complete turn-key solution or as a series of modular kits that owners can install on their own Dodge Challenger dragster. A production run of only 50 models of the 2020 MOPAR Dodge Challenger Drag Pak cars means they will become instant classics.
The Challenger Drag Pak starts as a body in white, which is devoid of all the extras found in a street car. A race-spec welded roll cage is installed, which rates the Challenger for speeds as fast as 7.50 seconds in the quarter-mile. Power comes from a supercharged 354 cubic-inch HEMI V8 engine fitted to a T400 three-speed racing transmission. A wheelie bar and parachute mount are standard at the rear of the Drag Pak.
How much power, you ask? We still don’t know, but experts are guessing above 1,500 horsepower found in the third-generation model.
In addition to the pure power and speed of the Drag Pak specialty car, FCA and the MOPAR brand chose the SEMA Show to showcase a pair of pick-em-up trucks that are examples of two directions customizers and outfitters can take in giving you the exact Ram truck that appeals to you.
The Ram 1500 Rebel OTG (Off The Grid) is the perfect vehicle for those who choose to get lost for a few days or more. Overland-equipped, the Ram 1500 Rebel starts as a Ram 1500 pickup, that is equipped to get to a destination rather than conquer obstacles. Designed for vehicle-supported exploration travel, this Ram 1500 is complete with a 3.0-liter V-6 EcoDiesel with extended low-end torque and long-range. It rides with a two-inch lift kit, Beadlock wheels and 35-inch Goodyear off-roading tires.
The bed of the Ram 1500 OTG is outfitted with an accessorized rack system featuring a slide-out stove, a battery-powered cooler, and a sink with an on-board water system. An added rack that mounted above the truck helps to carry a collapsible rooftop tent with a stowable ladder.
Classic trucks are gaining in popularity as hot-rodding platforms in the aftermarket world. This year’s SEMA show illustrated the point with an extremely trick version of a “rescued” 1968 Dodge D200 Heavy Duty Pickup truck.
Christened as the MOPAR Lowliner Concept, this resto-mod is a rear-wheel-drive truck that has been slammed while the wheelbase has been lengthened for a more dramatic stance. There is a customized power-tilt front end to showcase as well as provide easy access to the 5.9-liter Cummins Diesel engine, which is mated to a floor-mounted six-speed shifter. The front axle has been stretched an additional three inches for improved looks and performance. A custom air suspension system adds adjustment that carries the D200 from Low to Driving Height to Driving Height Plus.
The interior of the Lowliner includes the original bench seat with a “blazing saddle” tan leather seating surface. The headliner is leather as well and features the MOPAR logo stitched in. Sure, it started as a lowly pickup truck, but making a run to pick up a load of mulch seems so far beneath this low-riding Lowliner.
For those who are adept at the do-it-yourself lifestyle, many of the parts used in these vehicles are available at Napleton CDJR MOPAR parts departments. Contact your local Napleton dealership for more information. Booyah.
