Ford Motor Company has announced its plan to release two all-electric crossovers that will hit the market by 2023. While neither model has yet to receive an official name, Automotive News confirmed that one vehicle will be a Ford while the other will be produced and sold by Lincoln, Ford’s luxury brand.
Both new vehicles are expected to be mid-size crossovers, comparable to the size of the Ford Edge and Lincoln Nautilus. These new vehicles will run entirely on battery-electric power and will be produced at Ford’s assembly plant in Flat Rock, Michigan.
To make room for the new vehicles, it is rumored that Ford may cut production on existing models such as the Continental by 2021. This luxury sedan is one of the most well-recognized names in Lincoln’s lineup. However, if Ford plans to produce a significant number of new EVs to meet market demand, the automaker has to change its strategy.
Automotive News confirmed that the two code names for the new crossovers are CDX746 and CDX747. It is expected that Ford’s suppliers have been asked to prepare parts for 65,000 units per year starting late 2022 or early 2023.
