Genesis News News & Reviews

NEW SUPER BOWL CAR COMMERCIALS

The Super Bowl Car Commercials are one of the most anticipated parts of the Super Bowl fans and commercial viewers alike. Most anticipated, though, are the commercials which highlight an automaker’s current offerings as well as tease a few hidden surprises, too.

Here at Napleton.news, we are fans of many of the commercials seen during the “Big Game.” It doesn’t matter whether they are hocking beer, electronic personal assistants, Google, snack foods and more. The bottom line is that when it comes to Super Bowl Commercials, the car is the star. But to cut through all the chatter, we are going to focus on the vehicles and the brands that we sell here at Napleton Auto Group.

Most of the commercials seen during the game required the lighting and directorial talent of a regular-length feature film director and crew, along with the budgets to match. And that’s before you even stop to consider that it will cost around $5.5-million per 30-second spot to appear within game time.

So, sit back, crank out some popcorn and enjoy the show.

PORSCHE TAYCAN: THE HEIST

Super ambitious, The Heist features the new Porsche Taycan EV running through the streets of Porsche’s Stuttgart, Germany home, followed by a gaggle of Porsche Museum security guards in pursuit. It’s a well-done spot, with a tease of the yet-to-be-released new 992 Porsche 911 GT3 on a shelf awaiting its closeup. Perhaps next year.

KIA SELTOS: TOUGH NEVER QUITS

Kia’s spot with Las Vegas Raiders’ running back Josh Jacobs barely shows the new Kia Seltos in the commercial. Instead, it highlights Jacobs’ ability to overcome adversity and homelessness that helped to propel him to professional heights in the National Football League today. In the spot, he is seen having a conversation with his younger self in a new Kia Seltos. The best part was Kia Motors America donating $1,000 for every yard gained in the game to help fight Youth Homelessness. #GiveItEverything.

HYUNDAI SONATA WITH SMAHT PAHK

Hyundai’s spot featured the new 2020 Hyundai Sonata with Smaht Pahrk, er, Smart Park in the starring role.  With “Boston-accented” actors Chris Evans, John Krasinksi, Rachel Dratch and Red Sox slugger David Ortiz in supporting roles, it was a grand slam for its humor and its technology. Still, it was a bit disturbing listening to Ortiz describe the new Sonata as “Wicked Smaht.”

GENESIS GV80 SUV: SEXIEST MAN ALIVE

It’s too bad the commercial felt a bit forced (Chrissy Teigen calling out the lady with too much plastic surgery “I saw you in the waiting room.”) for such an excellent product, but Genesis has found their new MVP with the GV80 SUV. Teigen almost redeems herself at the end, though, with reference to husband John Legend as the “Sexiest Man Alive.”

JEEP GLADIATOR: GROUNDHOG DAY

Actor and comedian Bill Murray reprises his role as weatherman Phil Connors in Jeep’s Commercial “Groundhog Day.” Filmed 27 years after the original film by the same name, it now features Murray waking up on Groundhog day to something different: the new Jeep Gladiator. FCA and their filmmakers even went back to the town of Woodstock, IL, which was the location the original film was made.

Mark Elias

I've loved everything on wheels: Trains, Planes and definitely Automobiles. I am constantly in search of the latest in new technology, which makes our lives better each day, but will always respect the classics. You can't continue forward without first taking a look back at where you've been.
