2020 Honda Civic Type R LogR Performance App
Honda just released LogR, a data-logging app that provides drivers with data and scoring information that improves driving skills on the track or other closed courses. The new technology, which is the first of its kind and exclusive to the 2020 Civic Type R, will help drivers get the most out of their favorite sports car.
Drivers will interact with the LogR app through three main functions, according to a press release from Honda.
A “Performance Monitor” provides vehicle information to the driver on the “Display Audio” screen, while Log Mode records lap times on the track. Lastly, the “Auto Score” function encourages smooth driving by monitoring braking, acceleration and steering, and generating a “driving smoothness” score using proprietary algorithms developed by Honda with the help of professional drivers.
The following video shows footage of the LogR capabilities from a test run in the Streets of Willow Springs in Rosamond, California.
One unique feature of the LogR software is that it has exclusive access to the Type R’s onboard computer. This is uncommon for third-party apps, delivering more in-depth detail on the vehicle’s performance than other aftermarket systems that are only available through the vehicle’s factory onboard computer.
While driving, all interaction with Honda LogR is through the vehicle’s Display Audio screen. Both Log Mode and Auto Score also offer more in-depth analysis when the phone is unplugged from the vehicle, including previous drives, performance traces and replays using GPS mapping and detailed vehicle information, according to the press release.
The new LogR app is compatible for both iPhone and Android users. The app is expected to be available for download sometime this spring. Once downloaded, the data from the app will be easily communicated between the car’s software and the driver’s phone.
