New Suzuka Track Record Set By 2021 Honda Civic Type-R

The 2021 Honda Civic Type-R has set a new track record at the Suzuka Circuit with a time of 2 minutes 23.993 seconds. As Honda’s official Formula 1 racetrack, the Suzuka Circuit is 3.6-miles in length and designed in a figure-8 configuration.

Highly regarded by both fans and drivers alike, the Suzuka Circuit is always a highlight during the Formula 1 season. Some of the fastest and most impressive cars in the world have logged quick times on the track. But the 2021 Honda Civic Type-R is now king of the speedway.

“The Type R Limited Edition reflects Honda’s dedication to refining the essence and driving pleasure of Type R as a sports car and exceeding the expectations of our customers,” said Civic Type R Project Leader Hideki Kakinuma.

During the record-setting run, the Type-R was piloted by Super GT Series racer Takuya Izawa. During the final lap, Izawa showed incredible poise by handling turns with ease and accelerating with grace as the 2021 Honda Civic Type-R cruised past the finish line.

Take a look at the following video that shows in-cabin footage from Izawa’s incredible driving performance.

It’s amazing to think that this model is street legal, meaning that you can go into any one of the Ed Napleton Automotive Group’s three Honda locations to see a 2021 Honda Civic Type-R up close and in person.

Maybe it could even be your next car. After all, it’s an incredible feat of engineering.

“The engineering team and I embraced a racing spirit that has been passed down for generations, and it’s this strong passion that’s driving the evolution of the Civic Type R towards becoming the ideal sports car,” said Kakinuma. “Now the “advanced” Type R that I envisioned at the beginning of this development is a reality, and I am overwhelmed by the result and how our efforts have been rewarded.”
