“Batteries are included.” With that, Hyundai Motor shared photos of an SUV Concept and a teaser video of an innovative Plug-in Hybrid SUV Concept vehicle. The company will debut it at the 2019 AutoMobility LA Los Angeles Auto Show. It is the seventh example of the brand’s Sensuous Sportiness global design language, as put forth by the Hyundai Design Center.
The concept of Sensuous Sportiness is one that helps draw consumers to the brand. “We pursue innovative solutions in design and add emotional value to our product experience through sensuous sportiness design language,” said SangYup Lee, Senior VP and head of Hyundai Global Design Center.
The SUV Concept includes a plug-in hybrid powertrain consistent with its eco-lifestyle focus.
The design of the new Plug-in Hybrid SUV concept builds on two engaging sub-themes. These themes of Parametric Fantasy and Transcendent Connectivity, occur when the relationship between elements is used to manipulate and inform the design of complex geometries and structures.
We think they are trying to say the new design of this innovative plug-in hybrid is a blending of intent and a resulting response. With bulging front wings, a hunkered-down greenhouse and sharply creased strakes running mid-way from the front doors rearward, this concept displays an imposing profile with a dynamic presence that implies speed and performance. The fact it has a plug-in hybrid powerplant guarantees that performance due to the “instant-on” nature of electric power motivation. Unlike an internal combustion engine, electrical power is sent immediately to the electric motor (or motors) powering this concept vehicle. Instead, it’s as though a full charge of electrons is being rushed from the batteries to the motor and then to the road below.
We have no idea of details as to how much horsepower and torque the power generator unit(s) will produce. We don’t even have an idea of how far a full charge will take you either. Your mileage may vary, but at the same time it is clear the dawn of a new age is upon us. Maybe slot cars will be making a comeback, too.
