The Kia EV9 performs skid pad testing.
Kia has entered the final stages of technical testing of its new Kia EV9 EV SUV, Napleton News has learned. According to Kia, the EV9 will make a world debut in the first quarter of 2023. The vehicle is designed and engineered to transform the large electric SUV segment, Kia officials said. Along the way, they hope it will speed up and cement Kia’s leadership in sustainable electric mobility.
Kia plans for the EV9 to be the flagship of the brand. Placed in that lofty position, they have subjected the EV9 to grueling trials and testing. The new EV9 has seen it all. That includes rough roads, smooth tracks and irregular driving surfaces.
The new SUV has been development for almost four years at Kia’s Namyang Global Research & Development center in Korea. Testing included verification runs up the company’s four-wheel drive climbing hill, along rough terrain surfaces and through a deep-water wading pool. It’s all done to guarantee reliability in various conditions. Other tests include high-speed runs and low-friction maneuvers on the Hyundai Group’s test tracks. The company has even built a cobblestone road, complete with stones imported from Belgium.
These camouflaged photos of the Kia EV9 are not the first time this large segment EV SUV. Introduced as the “Concept EV9” at the Automobility LA auto show in Los Angeles, it shows off Kia’s new “Opposites United” design language. Going forward, the brand hopes the finished product shows off the pinnacle of what is possible in SUV design.
The EV9 relies on Kia’s Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), which it shares with the award-winning Kia EV6. Groundbreaking in its own right, the EV6 has received many critical awards, including the coveted 2022 European Car of the Year award.
The Concept EV9 featured a low-gravity side body for maximum impact. The cabin gives off a softness inside that is inviting and comforting and offers a contrast to its strong off-road presence.
The new Kia EV9 EV SUV will make its formal debut in the first quarter of 2023. As more news becomes available, you can be sure you’ll get it first on Napleton News.
