Genesis G90
The Genesis G90, current flagship of the Genesis luxury fleet, has just had its closeup in Los Angeles at the AutoMobility LA (AKA The Los Angeles Auto Show). Billed as a full model change at mid-cycle, the 2020 Genesis G90 was introduced in 2019 and will begin to appear at Genesis stores around the country in December 2019.
Through its new interior and exterior design architecture, it once again becomes a flagship in the truest sense. The 2020 G90 is the start of a new product offensive to be brought by the brand, with “emotive products with exceptional design,” said William Lee, the Executive Vice President and Global Head of the Genesis brand.
Now seen for the first time in the United States, the 2020 Genesis G90 design language is all new. With the evolution of the Athletic Elegance, only the roof and door panels are carryover. All other body parts are new and reflect a light, airy appearance with a glimpse into the future of the brand. The signature “Crest Grille” is flanked by quad lamps on either side. At the rear, more quad LEDs wrap their way around the corners leading to the trunk edge.
G-Matrix is a new design feature inspired by light reflecting from an illuminating diamond. Seen at the head and taillights, it helps to emphasize the proportions and balance the overall architecture. Additionally, for the first time, this new technology is available on optional 19-inch alloy wheels, which are part of the sound absorption technology designed to reduce road noise.
Inside, the G90’s interior utilizes the Horizontal Architecture design thought by a selection of the most exceptional finishes and chrome plating that is befitting a flagship vehicle. They even go all the way down to sensuous open-pore wood to act as a garnish that is only offset by the double-needle stitching and piping through the cabin.
You can’t have an exquisite interior without proper power under the hood. In this case, the new Genesis G90 incorporates a buyer’s choice of 3.3-liter turbocharged V6 making 365 horsepower and 376 lb-ft of torque or a 5.0-liter naturally aspirated V8 engine with 420 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque. Both engines are mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. Standard drive is via rear wheels, while an available all-wheel-drive system is available for those living in the Snowbelt.
