2024 Infiniti Q50 Sedan

The 2024 Infiniti Q50 Sedan is the brand’s oldie-but-goody. But that’s not necessarily a bad thing. While the rest of the industry has gone off in pursuit of Sport Utility Nirvana, Infiniti is holding onto their one sedan, at least for today. What happens tomorrow is anyone’s guess. As for us at Napleton News, we are on the fence. But what would you expect for a vehicle that has been on the market for over 10 years? Read on to see our report.

Head on in the Infiniti Q50 Red Sport.

What is the Infiniti Q50 Sedan about?

At a time when all the other cars in the lineup are not cars anymore, the Infiniti Q50 keeps the candle lit. It is a four-door, five-passenger sedan in a front-engine/rear- or all-wheel drive configuration. Buyers have a choice of twin-turbocharged V6 engines. The best of those is the 3.0-liter turbo V6, as found in this high-performance Q50 Red Sport 400. Here, it delivers 400 horsepower and 350 lb-ft of torque. Ours is an all-wheel drive model but Infiniti offers a RWD as well.

Infiniti also offers a less-powerful Q50 with a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 engine. It brings 300 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. Rear-wheel drive is the standard offering but AWD is an available option. Both models are matched to a seven-speed automatic transmission.

Q50 rivals from other manufacturers will likely have a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine in its base and mid-level models. Infiniti gets past that malarkey and brings a pair of V6 engines, instead.

How does the Infiniti Q50 look?

The Q50 Sedan follows the traditional long nose/short tail layout. That’s the current state-of-the-art in four-door “three-box” sedan styles. Instead of a freshening, though, they continue on with the now exhausted barrel grille with slitty cat eyes for a distinctive look that you’ll see on few other vehicles. There’s still plenty of blingy chrome trim winding its way around the Q50.

Here’s the reality, though: The design is nearing its sell-by date. Sure, it is still somewhat contemporary, but it risks being an also-ran soon if a refresh doesn’t occur soon.

The 2024 Infiniti Q50 Sedan is available in three trims ranging from base Q50 Luxe, the mid-range Q50 Sensory and the high-performance Q50 Red Sport 400. All models include three years of scheduled maintenance. AWD will add $2,000 to the bottom line, while the Red Sport 400’s Black Opal treatment tacks on another $2,200.

What about inside the Q50?

Seats in the business row of the Q50 offer great support, whether for a little or a long time. The rear seat is a bit tight, especially if you are tall or the driver in front of you is. Just call shotgun when you are being driven around.

The audio system is a bit dated by current standards but still manages to up the dBs thanks to the Bose speakers throughout the cabin. The controls are a bit convoluted and the dual screens are a bit small, and dated (there’s that word again).

The Q50 Red Sport

After all these years, the Infiniti Q50 still surprises. It is filled with almost every option available from the catalog, but that’s what happens when a product nears the end of life and has become stagnant.

Don’t get us wrong. The Q50 is a perfectly capable sedan that offers performance, luxury and more. It even has the muscle you’d expect coming from a GT-style sedan. We’re talking 0-60 mph in 4.5 seconds.

The Infiniti Q50 Red Sport hits the road.

Despite the speed, there is a certain twitchy feel to the steering wheel that seems to prevent it from tracking straight and true. And the run-flat tires transmitted a fair amount of road noise up through the cabin. That shouldn’t exist in a luxury car that stickers near $60k.

Only time will tell if it continues.
