The Jeep Compass (RED) is a special version of the honey-I-shrunk-the-kids version of the Jeep Grand Cherokee. But it’s also a vehicle that gives back. U2 frontman Bono and fellow activist Bobby Shriver founded the (RED) Company to fight the AIDS pandemic. Stellantis will give a minimum of $4-million to support the (RED) Company. Besides the Jeep Compass (RED), there are many (RED) accessories, backpacks, clothing, and more that you can use to express your support. It’s a “Beautiful Day” (U2 Song) for a drive in the new Jeep Compass (RED). Join Napleton News while we cruise “Where The Streets Have No Name.” We’re going “With or Without You,” so you better hop in now.
The 2023 Jeep Compass (RED) is a five-door, five-passenger compact SUV from the Jeep brand of Stellantis. It is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine delivering 200 horsepower and 221 lb-ft of torque. The engine mates to an eight-speed automatic transmission that is known for its efficiency. The (RED), like all Compass models, is exclusively equipped with four-wheel drive.
Despite its small stature, it does bring with it some legitimate off-road chops. The turbo engine is new for 2023, and there are more standard driver features than before.
There’s a complete lineup of Compass trim levels available including:
The Jeep Compass hasn’t changed in the past several years so there’s that going for it. It actually remains quite fresh and features many characteristics found in its Cherokee and Grand Cherokee siblings.
With the Compass (RED) Edition, it is, as you would expect, red metallic with red (body color) badging throughout. And don’t forget the Easter Eggs. They are liberally sprinkled throughout including a Jeep (RED) cutout on the rear hatch. There’s more but you’ll just have to find them yourself.
The interior of the Jeep Compass (RED) was revised in the 2022 model year, so don’t expect a major updating this time. It’s mostly carryover but in a very well done way. These include updates in with Premium leather-trimmed seating, Uconnect 5 Nav with 10.1-inch touch screen display and more.
Admittedly, the rear seat legroom is not too great, so tall adults may scream “shotgun” as soon as they see the Compass. Still, it’s well done with many nice touches inside. These even include USB-C connection ports in the front and second rows. There’s even a Qi wireless charger located at the base of the center stack console.
The new 2023 Jeep Compass features a revised engine this year that is 23 hp stronger and 49 lb-ft torqueier than the engine it replaces. There’s plenty of get up and go, but it will let you know it’s on the job, working hard to get you up to speed. The 8-speed automatic transmission was sure-footed and smooth in its operation. It never missed a shift.
It offers both pep and agility while in the city or out on the open road. The week with the Compass showed us this Jeep has chops. We could cut corners in a sporty fashion when hitting the cloverleaf exits on Florida’s turnpike. Steering was well-weighted with good road feel. It went where you pointed it.
Some have claimed the ride to be bouncy while under way. We didn’t. Instead, we found a smooth operator, literally, that takes advantage of chassis refinements that help the Compass maintain an air of cars much more expensive than this.
