FCA Requests Jeep Cherokee Voluntary Recall

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) is performing a Jeep Cherokee Voluntary Recall. The company is attempting to update certain transmission software that may fail under specific conditions.

Napleton.news found that a review of customer data prompted FCA to investigate a possible driveline connection issue that may, under certain conditions, slip. This would likely result in a loss of propulsion preventing the PARK mode from engaging when the vehicle is stationary.

At this point, FCA is aware of one related accident but no injuries.

Owners will become aware of the driveline failure occurring by an dashboard gauge warning lamp that will illuminate notifying them of a failure. The updated software will deliver propulsion by engaging the rear-wheel-drive, if needed. Failing that, if the vehicle is not able to engage the brake setting, it will automatically cause the emergency parking brake to engage.

JEEP CHEROKEE VOLUNTARY RECALL AFFECTS 2014-2017 MODELS

This Jeep Cherokee Voluntary Recall is limited to model-year 2014-2017 Jeep Cherokee model SUVs equipped with a two-speed Power Transfer Unit (PTU). Jeep Cherokee vehicles equipped with a single-speed PTU are not affected by this recall.

FCA will begin to mail recall notices to owners next month. Until that time, customers are encouraged to use their parking brakes, as recommended by the vehicle’s owner’s manual.

FCA has established customer service help lines to answer any questions owners may have regarding the recall. Jeep Cherokee owners may reach Fiat Chrysler Automobiles by dialing 1 (800) 853-1403.

The company has determined that additional vehicles in other countries are subject to this recall. There are approximately 13,659 models affected in Canada. The company estimates around 716 affected vehicles reside in Mexico. An additional 9,940 models that reside outside North America are also affected.

Finally, FCA is also recalling an estimated 2,669 two-speed PTUs that were sold as replacement parts for Jeep Cherokee models.

Once an owner receives their voluntary recall notice, contact the Napleton Jeep dealership nearest you for a fast track recall.
