Hyundai Motor Honorary Chair Chung enters Automotive Hall of Fame.

Hyundai Motor Group Honorary Chairman Mong-Koo Chung entered the Automotive Hall of Fame. The ceremony was held Thursday, July 22, 2021 in Detroit, Michigan. Accepting the accolade was Hyundai Group Chairman Euisun Chung, representing his father, Honorary Chairman Chung.

“Honorary Chairman Mong-Koo Chung grew Hyundai Motor Group into the world’s fifth-largest automaker from its humble beginning. If my father were here, he would say he owes this honor to our employees, dealers and fantastic customers,” said Euisun Chung. “My father continued the legacy of my grandfather Ju-yung Chung, who founded Hyundai. He made the group something that employees and customers can all be proud of.”

The Automotive Hall of Fame credits much of the company’s success to Hyundai Motor Group’s Honorary Chairman Chung. His legacy is equal to other automotive legends who launched and guided firms to global growth and renown. Through his leadership, Hyundai Motor Group became the world’s fifth-largest automotive group responsible for vehicles like the Hyundai Sonata and Kia Optima (K5).

Hyundai Motor Group has grown to include Hyundai, Genesis and Kia brands. Ed Napleton Auto Group is proud to operate seven dealerships of each brand across the states of Illinois, Indiana, Missouri and Florida.

The Hall of Fame praised Chung’s wide range of accomplishments while heading the corporation. They included these highlights:

  • Acquiring Kia Motors Corporation to become a part of Hyundai Motor Group.
  • Promoting Hyundai Group’s growth with new plants in the United States, Europe, China, India, Brazil and Russia.
  • Creating a highly efficient, vertically integrated corporation responsible for producing everything from steel to complete vehicles.

A video of Chairman Chung’s contributions and accomplishments was viewed before the presentation. Hyundai Motors America displayed NEXO and IONIQ 5 vehicles to highlight Chung’s spearheading efforts to advance hydrogen and electric vehicle technology.

Chung led the purchase of Kia Corporation and brought it to profitability within its first year under Hyundai ownership. His passion for quality and desire for internal research & development (R&D) capabilities, created Korea’s first and only automotive manufacturing group. It helped to establish the Hyundai Group’s parts and materials divisions.

Company officials told of Honorary Chairman Chung’s feeling that quality is a virture that can’t be compromised. This led to the 10-year/100,000 powertrain warranty introduced in the U.S. in 1998. It is one of Chung’s most progressive initiatives and helped the company grow into its current powerhouse state.

The Automotive Hall of Fame began in 1939 to honor leaders making significant advancement in the automotive industry. To date, the Hall has honored over 800 men and women from around the world who have helped advance the concept of Mobility.
