Kia Concept Vehicles EV9 Concept all electric SUV

Kia released the first official images of the Kia Concept EV9, which the company states “embodies the company’s commitment to becoming a sustainable mobility solutions provider.” In other words, it is Kia’s way of telling the world they are “all-in” for the electric vehicle revolution. Could this be a sneak peek of a possible Kia Telluride EV?

Kia plans to hold a global debut of the EV9 at Automobility LA on November 17, 2021. Previously known as the Los Angeles Auto Show, it underwent a name change to reflect the changing world of mobility, whether gas, electric, fuel cells and more.

The design offers a look at what Kia is thinking about the future of SUV design and propulsion, including electric motor generators. There’s progressive design, state-of-the-art technology and an advanced all-electric powertrain in one package. If it manages to get its inspiration from the award-winning Kia Telluride Midsize SUV, that’s all the better.

Sized like a Telluride

According to reports, the new Kia EV9 concept is approximately the size of a Kia Telluride. Various reports state it rides on a fairly-long wheelbase with short front and rear overhangs. Judging by the sneak peek images released by Kia, it appears that it could seat as many as seven passengers.

Kia is expected to release several electric SUVs in the next few years, including the upcoming EV6, which should be available shortly. The Concept EV9 could be the perfect alternative to those thinking of a Telluride-sized vehicle but with motor generators instead of an internal combustion engine. If this “tease” comes to fruition, it could be one of the largest non-luxury segment SUVs to hit the market so far.

No junk in the Frunk

With power coming from Electric Motor Generators rather than an internal combustion engine, there is no engine under the hood. That should free up plenty of space for a “frunk” instead. What’s a frunk, you ask? Why it’s a trunk in the front! That, of course, would be in addition to the cargo space that is already behind the second or third-row seating. That means there will be lots of interior space thanks to the “skateboard” style chassis that is all the rage amongst EV designers and engineers today.
