MERCEDES-BENZ S-CLASS: LUXURY IN A NEW WAY

A vehicle by which so many others are benchmarked, the new Mercedes-Benz S-Class, to paraphrase, is not content to let the grass grow under its feet. In the automotive field, where technology is constantly on the move, you can’t linger too long over one innovation. That’s because things move so quickly that you won’t realize you’re about to be passed until the pass has occurred.

MERCEDES-BENZ S CLASS: LUXURY IN A NEW WAY

A vehicle by which so many others are benchmarked, the new Mercedes-Benz S-Class, to paraphrase, is not content to let the grass grow under its feet. In the automotive field, where technology is constantly on the move, you can’t linger too long over one innovation. That’s because things move so quickly that you won’t realize you’re about to be passed until the pass has occurred.

Mercedes-Benz S-Class Going Away

The Mercedes-Benz S-Class is one of those vehicles that make the drive just as exhilarating as the destination. Always in the Napleton.news best-of lists, it’s a car that few others can compete with. Read along as we describe the updates in the new S-Class.

WHAT’S IN STORE FOR THE 2021 MERCEDES-BENZ S-CLASS?

It’s now a touch larger than before, but only by an inch here, a couple of inches there and some redesigned body work. Daimler knew what they had all along with the S-Class, so the subtle updates in length and width may not be apparent at all.

While offering numerous innovations in driver assistance, these will now focus on people. The new Mercedes-Benz S-Class will instead utilize digitization to create a car that responds empathetically to the needs and desires of its occupants.

Of these, a few of the most important new features are below:

  • The second-generation of MBUX (Mercedes-Benz User Experience). The interface between driver, passenger and vehicle, MBUX will utilize up to five screens, including some with OLED technology. Now including 3D technology, the system allows special perception of one’s surroundings with a 3D effect due to eye-tracking. A very-large head-up display now shows animated turn-off arrows (known as fishbones)
  • Active ambient lighting with around 250 LEDs is now a part of the driving assistance system to reinforce warnings visually. They can also offer a confirmation when using the climate control or “Hey Mercedes” concierge feature, which now understands up to 27 different languages.
  • Latest generation of Mercedes’ Driver Assistance Package now features numerous improved functions, including predictive compliance with speed limits.
  • A new (optional) rear airbag is available for added security and to reduce head and neck impact of seatbelt wearing outer rear passengers. The frontal airbag in the rear seat is particularly gentle upon deployment.
  • Rear-axle steering (optional) makes the S-Class as maneuverable as a compact car in the city and reduces the turning circle by six-feet, even while in a long-wheelbase or 4Matic all-wheel-drive S-Class variant.
  • More than 50 electronic components in the new S-Class can be updated “over the air” (OTA). These components include the entire MBUX infotainment system, the driver display and driver assistance kit. With this innovation, there is no need for the customer to sit in a dealership waiting for your system software to be updated.
  • Pre-safe Impulse Side Protection and E-Active Body Control can reduce side impact on the occupants because it directs the impact forces toward crash-resistant structures in the lower portion of the vehicle.

BEST SELLING LUXURY SEDAN IN THE WORLD

“The S-Class is the World’s best-selling luxury sedan. With the latest generation, we want to offer our customers innovation, safety, comfort and quality as never before,” said Ola Kallenius, Chairman of Daimler AG and Mercedes-Benz AG.

Modern luxury reaches a new level with the interior of the S-Class. Now featuring a “feel-good” ambiance with lounge-like character, it includes a new dashboard architecture, modern design and fine ergonomics. It goes further, with increased ride quality, low noise levels and an extensive range of Energizing Comfort programs to look at the well-being of its passengers.

INNOVATIVE POWER FOR THE S-CLASS LAUNCH

At the launch of the new 2021 Mercedes-Benz S-Class, there will be two available engines. These include innovative starter generators (ISG) called EQ Boost and a 48-volt onboard electrical system. The first, sold as the S500 4Matic, is powered by a 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder engine producing 429 horsepower and 384 lb-ft of torque. This doesn’t include the 21 horsepower, 48-volt mild-hybrid unit.

The second engine offering is the S580 4Matic with 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 (again including EQ Boost) with an output of 496 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque. Both engines mate to a nine-speed 9G-Tronic automatic transmission and are electronically limited to 130 mph. (Boooo!)

We can’t wait to get inside ourselves. The new Mercedes S-Class goes on sale in early 2021. Keep an eye on Napleton.News for more information as it becomes available.

I've loved everything on wheels: Trains, Planes and definitely Automobiles. I am constantly in search of the latest in new technology, which makes our lives better each day, but will always respect the classics. You can't continue forward without first taking a look back at where you've been.
