Whetting the appetite of dreamers everywhere was the purpose of this exercise. The Mitsubishi Vision Ralliart Concept is the latest to wear the badge of Mitsubishi’s high-performance and motorsports division. At Napleton News, we love an underdog, and Mitsubishi is one of the most lovable.
The Vision Ralliart Concept and several other Mitsubishi vehicles broke cover at the Tokyo Auto Salon in mid-January 2022. It wasn’t what many expected from Ralliart. Sure, you may be disappointed the same way we were at first view. Like many others, we bet you were chomping at the bit for a Mitsubishi Lancer EVO. Last available for sale in 2016, these pocket rockets garnered a worldwide following among auto enthusiasts.
If you have been living under a rock, you have noticed that sedans are not selling like they once did. On the other hand, they buy Crossovers and SUVs, like they are going out of style. That’s why Ralliart decided to dabble in the segment too.
Some of the more august scribes in the automotive space express outright disappointment in the fact that this exercise is a cosmetic one. We say it’s a start. Many concept vehicles are propelled by an electric golf cart motor with just enough power to get on the auto show floor and then off again, following its debut. In the case of the Mitsubishi Vision Ralliart, power for the Vision Ralliart Concept comes from the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV powertrain currently available in Japan. A collaboration between Renault, Nissan and Mitsubishi (the Alliance), power comes from a 2.4-liter MIVEC inline-4 engine with 70 kW AC Synchronous Motors. The total power output is 221 horsepower going to all four wheels through a pair of electric motors.
Designed to feature a new sense of style within the brand, the Vision Ralliart Concept challenges the firm’s desire for fine craftsmanship. The front grille features a functional set of shutters, while a rear diffuser displays the Ralliart’s race-influenced styling.
Paint is matte black with blue highlights when struck by light. The wide stance features a large front and rear fascia that covers and flares out over the 22-inch custom-designed center-lock alloy wheels. Finally, high-performance brake calipers are here to match the powerful torque from the electric motors. These high-performance brakes will be called to slow the process down. That’s if the Mitsubishi Vision Ralliart concept ever goes into production.
Is the Mitsubishi Ralliart concept destined for production? Who knows? If Mitsubishi’s factory starts spitting these babies out, we expect a long waiting line of customers. Imagine it: people begging for Mitsubishi to take their money as a down payment.
Step right up!
