The World-famous LEGO company introduced its latest toy building block set and in the process, paid tribute to 50 years of the Nissan GT-R Nismo sports car. The company’s design of an iconic supercar, it is also the first time that LEGO has partnered with a Japanese Auto Maker for any collaboration.
LEGO introduced the wheel into its building block sets in 1962 and they have been off to the races ever since.
LEGO CEO Niels B. Christiansen introduced the LEGO model in the company of Nissan executive Vice President Asako Hoshino at the brand’s global headquarters in Yokohama, Japan.
“In addition to offering a wonderful and fun building and play experience, we hope the model will also inspire children to learn more about engineering and how to create things in real life,” said Niels B. Christiansen. “Just as engineers across decades have improved the design and performance of this car, children build, unbuild and rebuild during play – stimulating and developing crucial skills such as creativity, resilience, problem-solving and critical thinking. Inspiring them to become the builders of tomorrow is our mission,” he said.
Nissan’s Hoshino said, “The Nissan GT-R and the LEGO brand are both renowned and loved by fans of all ages throughout the world, and we are honored to be the first-ever Japanese Car manufacturer to partner with the LEGO Group.” He continued, “With this partnership, everyone can be a “Takumi” – the specialized craftsmen that build the GT-R. It’s the GT-R’s 50th anniversary this year, so what better way to celebrate than to share the GT-R with Nissan and LEGO fans around the world!”
The new LEGO Speed Champions Nissan GT-R NISMO with be available after the beginning of the new year. Now 25-percent bigger than models in the past, it is made up of 298 pieces, including intricately detailed parts from the life-sized race car, only smaller.
The new LEGO kit debuted in the shadow of the real-life 2020 Nissan GT-R NISMO. Newly available, it is the most capable GT-R in history and features loads of specialized parts. The new carbon-fibered GT-R NISMO includes a new front and rear bumper, roof, trunk, and rear spoiler. Not to be outdone, carbon-fiber front fenders with special scalloped vents help lighten the load. Finish it up with lightweight wheels, a tuned suspension, Brembo carbon brakes and a pair of new turbochargers. We’re not talking playtoy here.
