Nissan went way out on a limb today, introducing the new Nissan Ariya CUV Electric Vehicle. What’s an Ariya? Only an electric crossover SUV that can deliver up to 300 miles on a single charge. That’s a preliminary figure based on Nissan’s long-range 2WD model. But it’s one way of hauling the family without the dreaded range anxiety.
It’s been years in the making, but here at Napleton.news, we’re nearly as excited as the engineers at Nissan. Why is that, you ask? Read on to find out.
The new Ariya is another step in the Nissan NEXT transformation initiative. It’s a plan spanning four years that will transform the brand through innovation, craftsmanship, customer focus and quality. In their own words, “The Ariya embodies the company’s vision to enrich people’s lives.”
Promising powerful acceleration and quiet operations, the Nissan Ariya is loaded with technology. Starting with a smooth, stylish “two-box” design, the Ariya is a 100-percent electric crossover vehicle seating five-passengers. In addition to all the expected features, it will also include advanced driver assistance and connectivity technology in a smart-looking, well-designed package.
Power for the Nissan Ariya CUV comes from an electric drivetrain that supplies power to a two- or new e-4ORCE (AWD) system. The 4ORCE system is tuned for a smooth ride and all-weather capability. Choose from two different battery sizes, depending on your needs. Nissan claims the Ariya’s twin electric motors will provide balanced handling and sports car level performance.
It is scheduled to go on sale in Japan in Mid-2021. It will be introduced in the U.S. later in the year. U.S. Pricing will start at $40,000.
Nissan claims stress is a thing of the past with the Ariya’s next-generation ProPILOT Assist 2.0 advanced driver assistance package. This system monitors driver attention to “enable hands-off single-lane highway operation.” The Ariya will also offer e-Pedal for one-pedal driving. With it, a driver can accelerate normally. When they lift their foot, the Ariya applies normal braking. It’s like riding in a life-sized electric slot car!
Some of the advanced tech on-board includes Nissan’s Safety Shield 360, which is made up of advanced safety assists, including Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection, Rear Automatic Braking, Lane Departure Warning, Blind Spot Warning, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, and High beam Assist. Of course, Nissan’s Around View Monitoring system will make the scene, too.
Through the use of compact battery cells, the Nissan Ariya CUV has been redesigned to feature a flat floor that helps to open up more useful space inside. Thin profile Zero Gravity seating, a Nissan breakthrough, helps to carry out the lounge-like interior.
