2020 Nissan Versa
NISSAN’S 2020 VERSA MEETS US FOR DINNER.
One of the more popular subcompacts on the road today, the Nissan Versa has been rethought, refreshed and redesigned at a time when many automakers are abandoning sedans in favor of a truck- and SUV-based lineup.
The Versa is the third of four popular Nissan Cars to be redesigned and continues to emphasize the design expression of the brand. Nissan invited us to Miami for a walk-around of the new Versa, in the Little Havana neighborhood, complete with a Cuban dinner by World-famous, Miami-based Chef Michelle Bernstein at her restaurant, Café La Trova.
ALL NEW VERSA
The new Versa continues moving forward with loads of technologies found on cars that are class-above. Nissan decides to “Poke the bear” and stir things up with technology, safety and design in one package. At first glance, we like what we see.
The new Versa is an entry-level vehicle that will be most buyer’s first view of the Nissan brand, but definitely one that will leave a lasting impression. From its exterior, the new Versa is longer, lower and wider than the previous model, but it still manages to retain the roominess it is known for.
The V-Motion grille returns, along with boomerang-shaped head- and taillamps, along with a kick-up C-pillar and floating roof similar to that first sighted on the Nissan Murano. Designers describe their work as energetic, provocative and engaging. Add to that modern.
The Versa will be available in three flavors: Base Versa S, mid-range SV and sporty SR models.
INSIDE MATTERS
The Versa’s exterior wasn’t the only thing reimagined. Inside, it now features the “gliding wing” instrument panel that expands the total space found inside the vehicle. Six-way adjustable front bucket seats are standard, with an available, but essential, driver’s seat armrest. The rear seat in cars equipped with the CVT transmission features a 60-40 split with access to the 14.3-cubic feet of trunk cargo space.
Other standard features include a 7.0-inch color display with touch screen capability, Bluetooth telephone connectivity with audio streaming, a 12-volt power port, three USB ports and available Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
POWER PLAY
Power for the new Versa comes from a singular 1.6-liter 4-cylinder engine making 122 horsepower and 114 lb-ft of torque; an increase of 12- and seven percent, respectively, over the previous generation Versa. It now incorporates a new dual injector system that burns cleaner and more efficiently than before. The base Versa S comes with a choice of a 5-speed manual transmission or enhanced Xtronic transmission, which is standard on SV and SR models.
Nissan officials are bullish on their new arrival. Nissan program design director Giovanny Arroba said, “The new Versa design is more tailored and mature than you’d expect to find in an entry-level vehicle.”
Our night with the display model Nissan Versa quickly came to an end. Continue to check back with Napleton.News , where we will present a full review, once we have had a chance to take it for a drive.
