Subaru isn’t messing around when it comes to designing some of the safest vehicles on the road.
Two of the auto maker’s most popular models, the Outback and Legacy, each earned high praise from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) when they released information on 2020 models earlier this month.
The 2020 Legacy sedan was awarded as a Top Safety Pick Plus while the 2020 Outback wagon received a Top Safety Pick nomination from the IIHS.
These awards identify the best vehicle choices for safety within size categories during a given year. Certain criteria are taken into consideration. For example, larger vehicles generally afford more protection than smaller ones. Thus, a small car that qualifies for an award might not protect its occupants as well as a bigger vehicle that doesn’t earn the award, according to IIHS.org.
The IIHS started recognizing “Top Safety Pick” models in 2006. By 2013, the IIHS started awarding models that are even more dependable with the “Top Safety Pick Plus” honors. Car-buyers can use this information every year as an unbiased source to determine which new vehicles are the safest to drive.
