There are many cars on the road today like the Cadillac CT4-V. But the question is, are they worth your money. Napleton News is constantly on the lookout for value and performance, hopefully in the same package. Does the CT4-V deliver? Hop in to find out.
The CT4-V is part of the larger family of CT4 sedans that range from the base model all the way to the ultra-powerful CT4-V Blackwing. The entry level CT4 is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder making 237-horsepower. It is mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. Next up is a 2.7-liter turbocharged inline-4 delivering 310 horsepower through a ten-speed automatic transmission. Both are rear-wheel drive with AWD being an available option.
The king-of-the-hill CT4-V Blackwing packs a twin-turbocharged 3.6-liter V6 engine that produces a blistering 472-hp. It includes a choice of 10-speed automatic or 6-speed manual transmission. It is a rear-wheel drive model, only.
Which brings us to our test sled: The Cadillac CT4-V brings an up-rated version of the 2.7-liter inline-4 that makes 325 horsepower through a 10-speed automatic gearbox. It, too, is available as a rear or all-wheel drive model. There’s a limited-slip rear differential, front Brembo brakes, performance exhaust, sport suspension and launch control.
If you liked the CT4 in 2020, chances are good you’ll still like the 2024 Cadillac CT4-V. That’s because not much has changed since it was introduced four years ago. Sure, there have been minor updates as technology and trim have evolved, but overall, it’s pretty much like it was years ago.
The Cadillac CT4-V is the performance-oriented mid-level trim package of the CT4 line, slotting in above base, but just under the 3.6-liter twin-turbo V6 engine. Since it is of the higher-performance persuasion, it includes a performance mesh grille, ground effect aero skirts and a front splitter as part of the fascia. At the rear, the good looks are tidied up with a rear decklid spoiler.
Overall, it’s a good look that appears rakish thanks to its low-slung stance.
Entry and exit from the cabin on the CT4-V can be a breeze, or a bother, depending on what you may have had for dinner. There is no entry or exit mode that slides the seat back and retracts the telescoping steering column. That’s too bad. So it’s not a bad idea to push the steering wheel away when you are ready to exit.
The seats offer excellent support in the first row. They’ll even hold you in place when rounding a turn. The backseat, though, is an entirely different animal. When we located the front seat for our legs, there was almost no legroom in the second row. That’s too bad, as well because otherwise we like the dimensions of the vehicle.
The tech inside is also dated as well. There is a configurable gauge display that changes according to the vehicle mode you are currently driving in. But the infotainment display screen is on the smallish side while many of the CT4-V’s competitors are now dabbling in 12.3-inch displays.
The car does pick up and go, thanks to some nice pipes and loads of torque. The steering is ok, but not spectacular. The suspension needs some stiffening in the ride quality because side-to-side wallow is a bit excessive for our tastes. For $60,000 you may expect a bit more.
There is a new one in the pipeline, we are told, and one we hope will address some issues that drag down this one. In the meantime, there are better ways to spend your sixty large, we think.
