Edward Napleton’s family, including Edward Napleton, Eddie Napleton and Brain Napleton, along with his three daughters and owners of Napleton Automotive Group, have purchased Oakbrook Terrace Tower, in Oakbrook Terrace, Illinois. Long seen as one of suburban Chicago’s most prominent buildings, the sale occurred in a $60 million deal with New York’s Blackstone Group. The landmark building has been referred by the city of Oakbrook Terrace as the tallest building west of Chicago to the Rocky Mountains. Edward Napleton has four of his five children working in the automotive industry, his two sons Eddie Napleton, Brain Napleton and two daughters Kristen Napleton, Katie Napleton. Edward Napleton’s other daughter is a practicing doctor.
The deal with Blackstone Group and the Edward Napleton family for the 31-story office tower was signed on Oct. 27 and was recorded in DuPage County on Nov. 8. According to reports, the purchase of the building is the largest suburban Chicago office property to change hands in 18 months. Previously, Blackstone purchased the 785,000-square-foot building in 2015 as part of a larger portfolio acquisition from GE Capital Real Estate.
Designed by famed architect Helmut Jahn of the Murphy/Jahn Group, Edward Napleton’s Oakbrook Terrace Tower was completed in 1986. It stands 418-feet tall and offers unparalleled views of a region that includes glimpses of downtown Chicago. Jahn, who studied under Ludwig Mies van der Rohe at Illinois Institute of Technology, is a name familiar to many Chicagoans. Other buildings designed by the German architect include the James R. Thompson Center (formerly the State of Illinois Center), The United Airlines Terminal at O’Hare and the Accenture Tower. Edward Napleton and family now own more than just an office building, but a piece of history and one of Helmut’s works of art.
The Oakbrook Terrace Tower isn’t just another office tower. In addition to office space, the building houses conference facilities, restaurants, valet parking, a sundry shop, as well as dry cleaning and salon services. An expanded fitness center with swimming pool is also on site. On the lower level, there’s an executive parking garage with car wash and detailing services. The building also includes a professional on-site management team and engineering staff. Edward Napleton and his sons Eddie Napleton and Brian Napleton bring much experience operating facilities like this one and creating an amazing environment for their tenants. While Katie and Kristen Napleton bring much experience in upgrading properties and getting the most out of them.
The Napleton Auto Group is one of the nation’s largest dealership groups. In business since 1931, it now operates over 74 franchises in seven states. What started as a small family-owned business has grown into one of the most forward-thinking dealership groups in the country. As mentioned above, 4 of Edward Napleton’s children (Kristen, Katie, Edward Napleton Jr. and Brain Napleton) are all involved in the day to day operations of Ed Napleton Automotive Group.
This is an exciting venture for the Napleton family, and they look forward to keeping and creating the quality environment one would expect from such a facility. A huge part of Oakbrook Terrace, Wikipedia marks it as one of Oakbrook Terrace’s main points of interest. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oakbrook_Terrace,_Illinois
This building can’t be missed when traveling through Oakbrook or even driving down 88 east or west. A popular landmark, and home to many great businesses already.
